Is really interesting to me that they’re shown in the same bed, because I remember learning that couples used to be shown in separate beds on TV because it was considered inappropriate; couples were shown with separate beds up until the 60s. Was that just a neurosis for actual people rather than drawings, or was it actually kind of edgy to draw them in the same bed, I wonder?

That was a result of the Hayes Code which was voluntary self-censorship guidelines by the Motion Picture Association. Hayes Code was enforced 1934-1968, so this comic predates it. Its actually pretty wild watching films from the late 20s and early 30s that are from before Hayes; they’re surprisingly racy and boundary-pushing at times.
