Chronicle the life and tale of the fediverse (+ matrix)

Largely a sublemmy about capturing drama, from fediverse spanning drama to just lemmy drama.

Includes lore like how a instance got it's name, how an instance got defederated, how an admin got doxxed, fedihistory etc

(New) This sub's intentions is to an archive/newspaper, as in preferably don't get into fights with each other or the ppl featured in the drama

Had my personal encounter with that guy as well, complete powertripping asshole. Reminds me of u/awkwardturtle or a discord mod.

Was one of the biggest reddit mods for a looong time and constantly powertripping and abusing the report system to the admins, especially regarding his "trans" status that constantly changed and he got many people banned because they "misgenderd" him either unknowingly or because he changed his pronounce more often than his underwear.

In short, a gigantic asshole.

So server admins are how we get the Reddit mod experience

[–] Blaze@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Sorry to hear, I love the Lotr memes community

Never too late to make your own. Especially if enough people decide this is worth blocking the instance entirely.

Thank god we’re doing things on more than world

[–] thisbenzingring@lemmy.sdf.org 0 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Confirmed its real, and now I am blocking that instance. Thanks for the info. There is enough content on lemmy, a few instances can be excluded.

I personally think that's a bit much to block an entire instance over when just one admin is being mildly annoying. Their comment is basically nothing imo lol. Compare that to the OP of this post whose profile picture is a cartoon pony from a children's show having an orgasm.

It's almost like a community made of opinionated nerds loves making fake drama and being whiny bitches in general.

Added a link to the comment in my post. Thanks for reminding me!

All that link does is try to send an email. You have to put a "!" in front of it: !Politics@midwest.social

[–] DarkThoughts@fedia.io 0 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Is it possible to fedilink directly to specific threads or even comments, or just communities?

[–] Blaze@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 months ago
[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 0 points 2 months ago (3 children)

But it is.

Lemmy isn't set up to create a set of fairly moderated communities with buy-in from users. It is set up so anyone can be a dictator on their own server.

[–] tabarnaski@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago

Yup. But thankfully, it's also set up so they can quickly become dictators of their own little desert island.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

That's the beautiful thing about lemmy. If I don't like the current dictator, I can easily switch to a more benevolent leader.

[–] Blaze@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Users can still quickly leave until they found a fair admin

[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] IndiBrony@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

And when the fair become unfair then we move onto the next, as it should be!

[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 0 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I feel like relying on benevolent dictators only to run communities isn't the best option.

Admins are legally responsible for anything that gets posted on their server, so they require control. They also put in time and money to keep the server running.

There may be other technologies where all-powerful admins aren't necessary, like peer-to-peer networks. But then everything gets much more complicated. No more opening a website and entering username and password, now users need to install a client first and use a private key. It's not clear who is responsible for moderation. Scaling will be much more difficult. Users don't want to store gigabytes of historical data on their devices, so some servers are still needed. The way Activitypub and Lemmy works is really a hybrid between normal websites which is a well-known paradigm, and p2p which is still experimental. The p2p part is only done on the server because it would be too complex otherwise.

This question has been discussed at length in the thread. If people want to boycott Lemmy and switch to Mbin or Piefed, that's their choice, but maybe not relevant in this context?

Their comment here is valuable, posting this screenshot every time they comment seems counter productive.

[–] sir_pronoun@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago (2 children)

..so was this about his take on the Gaza war? That he thought support for Palestine would lead to a loss of democracy?

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

No they’re saying that’s what people criticizing the protestors are arguing. I think their take is perfectly acceptable but the power tripping is pretty rough

[–] MindTraveller@lemmy.ca -1 points 2 months ago

Yeah, exactly. He's saying that if you vote for Kamala in order to end the genocide in Gaza and prevent Trump from bombing the West Bank, then you're letting the fascists win and democracy is dead. He thinks we should all be apathetic towards Palestine and do nothing as a show of "symbolic" support for Gazans.

[–] chunkystyles@sopuli.xyz 0 points 2 months ago (1 children)

What does "spits their dummy out" man in this context? Is it just "says dumb shit"?

[–] IndiBrony@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

It's like a baby throwing a little tantrum, essentially.
