Who exactly is confident that Trump won't throw a coup-level hissy fit when he loses?

[–] vzq@lemmy.blahaj.zone 53 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Considering the punishment he got last time, it would be silly not to try. There is zero cost.

There a reason the price for a failed coup is usually execution.

If the same thing happens a second time maybe they'll finally do something about it

[–] themachine@lemm.ee 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The price will be super high to do so by then. I don’t think it will escalate to civil war status, but if he’s effective enough it could end up being a house of cards depending on how events play out. I hope the second act results in maga whining, the center yawning, and him just going tf away. I fear it could be a much worse tinderbox of protests with guns with all of the rhetoric though.

If he wins I kind of fear the same, too. It’s just awful he’s the candidate all around.

I just want to say fuck the RNC with a rusty pole for allowing themselves to be co-opted by such a complete fucking fascist psycho

Not only that, he has to, it's the only way he can postpone or cancel his impending criminal convictions.

Besides that, for the people pushing his movement it currently is the only option to seat a king and solidify a path for his family to inherit the throne.

So I fully expect a lot of trouble around the elections, from lawsuits to riots and open hostilities, and will be very surprised if it all goes fairly peacefully.

He'll probably fuck off to Russia when his next coup attempt fails. As a bonus he'll get free golden showers from Putin.

Does Trump have tanks? No? Then he can go straight to hell and take his kids with him.

[–] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

He won't need tanks. The GOP has already put 2020 election deniers in many positions critical to holding the coming election. Three of the five member Georgia Board of Elections are Trump supporting election deniers. Even if the election is a blow out for Harris/Walz, Trump's sycophants will create absolute havoc in many counties around the country, particularly counties where the election might be expected to be close. They will refuse to certify elections. They will lie again claiming they have evidence of massive fraud and they will file endless lawsuits. In the end, they will try their damnedest to tie up the election certification process in at least one state so the Supreme Court can step in and declare Trump the winner, as they did with Bush in 2000.

If none of that works and the electoral vote certification goes off and Harris wins, Trump's loosest cannons will lose their shit and he will get the bloodbath he wants. So even if we hold the line against these fascists and manage to pull off a free and fair election despite their efforts, we will have to pay in blood to do it.

If Trump loses there is no power transition or what am I missing?

[–] capt_wolf@lemmy.world 38 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Transition of power between Biden and Harris. Trump is 100% going to contest the results if they're not in his favor.

[–] BestBouclettes@jlai.lu 18 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Let's be honest, he would also contest them if they were.

[–] baldingpudenda@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago

When he won in 2016, he said California allowed illegal immigrants to vote. He also tried to say that 3 million ppl voted that shouldn't have. which, conveniently, is what he lost by. he had his cronies get info from all the states and the states all said get fucked, that's illegal and Trump just dropped it.

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

It's be like they're having a life, and he's not invited.
