I am always wary of people like him and, over time, I found out that my instinct was once again correct.

This is why you cannot rely on philanthropy to make the world a better place. Also, this guy who is supposedly trying to improve the world is partnering with Samsung according to the article.

This Samsung: https://ipen.org/news/samsung-whistleblower-reveals-toxic-chemical-use-and-violations-samsung-vietnam

[–] return2ozma@lemmy.world 42 points 3 months ago

He seems very self serving.

When I was younger I watched him a bit in his early days.

And whetever the “philanthropy” side sounded cool but most of his videos were massive wastes and pollution.

Like he’d destroy someone’s house and buy them a new better one. Or dumb stuff like that.

I've avoided his content because something about him just creeped me out. After several years, I think I've finally pinpointed it: he doesn't smile with his eyes. It makes his grin seem cold and emotionless, like a sociopath trying to blend in.

[–] Plopp@lemmy.world 16 points 3 months ago

Yeah people have been pointing that out for years. It's one of those things you can't unsee once you notice it.

[–] frezik@midwest.social 12 points 3 months ago

Happens in a lot of advertising for anything. They start looking really creepy once you know this.

Also, this guy pulled it off on purpose perfectly:

"Like a dolls eyes..."

I had never heard of this person before a few days ago.

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 56 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I’ve heard of him for years and have ignored him from the start. He always just seemed like a giant douche canoe.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 21 points 3 months ago (4 children)

I think douchecanoe is technically one word

[–] KnitWit@lemmy.world 24 points 3 months ago

Look at this douchecanoe sailing up in his douche canoe.

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

Nice. Am on mobile though.

[–] Plopp@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

It's still one word even on mobile.

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

I'll let you take up the battle against auto correct if you think it worth the effort. I'll put my energies somewhere else.

I want to pronounce it "doosh-kay-noh", like volcano.

EDIT: just realised that posting while drowsy leads to spelling mistakes.

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Fuck, now I can’t unsee this.

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Yeah you don’t want a hole in your douchecanoe.

[–] dmtalon@infosec.pub 13 points 3 months ago

I believe I only know of him because I have a teenager. I watch Youtube a lot and he's never on my feed.

[–] Magister@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Same, I don't follow anyone on YT, I rarely watch YT anyway

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Hello Hello

I have a disability which makes watching youtube impossible anyways lol

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 20 points 3 months ago (1 children)

The article says he’s gained three million new subscribers since this has started.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 19 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Some of them are bound to be hatewatchers. Nothing to get people subscribing to your channel like controversy.

I have created this robot solely to hate

[–] maniii@lemmy.world 15 points 3 months ago

Upper Echelon on YT has part1 and part2 detailing the various attempts to coverup the incriminating evidence.

Criminals like exploiting "Identity" and that is all I will say about it.

It is sad to see creators covering up shady shit instead of coming clean and cleaning house. Actions speak louder than words.

This seems like a run of the mill news attempt at controversy for attention. None of the "controversies" mentioned are particularly egregious. I don't think Mr beast needs me to defend him but the reactions to this seem way more extreme than the problems themselves.

How many of us know all of our friends and colleagues well ebough to know every dirty secret they have? If one of my friends were a pedophile but kept it well hidden, how am I to be held responsible for their actions when I didn't know?

An inexperienced production crew doesn't provide the best working conditions for a reality and stunt show? Color me surprised. Television has had shows that put people in danger for years, even from very experienced crews.

I know just about every one of us likely did or said something that was really, really stupid when we were teens. Turns out teenagers don't have fully developed brains and don't make the best decisions. Holding someone accountable for saying something dumb as a child, that they have publically apologized for later, seems like people going out of their way to find fault.

[–] undeffeined@lemmy.ml 13 points 3 months ago (1 children)

The pedophile friend in question did not hide their preference for minors from Mr Beast at all. One anedoctal evidence being they had a commissioned drawing of a pre pubescent girl with sexual overtones on their living room which Mr Beast saw several times.

[–] Halosheep@lemm.ee 4 points 3 months ago

That's actually good context that the article doesn't mention. Certainly very concerning.
