Donald Trump addressed a panel at the National Association of Black Journalists Wednesday where he was asked to explain his earlier words about “Black jobs.” His answer didn’t clear anything up.

Trump was initially asked by Fox News’s Harris Faulkner, who sat on the panel along with Rachel Scott of ABC News and Kadia Goba of Semafor, what his message was at the event. He began by talking about the so-called crisis at the U.S. southern border.

“A lot of the journalists in this room I know and I have great respect for, a lot of the journalists in this room are Black,” Trump said, drawing laughter from the audience. “I will tell you that coming from the border are millions and millions of people that happen to be taking Black jobs.”

“What exactly is a Black job, sir?” Scott asked him.

“A Black job is anybody that has a job. That’s what it is. Anybody that has a job,” Trump said to more laughter from the audience. “They’re taking the employment away from Black people.”

He really is in his element when he’s verbally sparring with people.

I’m really hoping he does some debates with Harris because I think she can put him off balance.

I felt that the equipment troubles he was referring to was to make the lady sitting closest to him look bad but also to give him an excuse to walk away if they kept asking hard questions.

He won't ever debate Harris. He'll keep coming up with excuses because he and his team know it'll be a disaster.

I’d say there’s a better then fifty percent chance his ego gets the better of him and he debates her.

I would love to see the top geriatric candidate for both parties get absolutely destroyed by a debate performance in the same election year

Yeah but Trump wouldn’t ever be able to step down and let the couchfucker take the top of the ticket.

I felt that the equipment troubles

the "equipment trouble" was him unable to say "i spent an hour fighting against using live fact checker during the broadcast"

“About 45 minutes before Trump took the stage, the former president pushed back on NABJ staffers who wanted to live fact check the event, according to a person familiar with the planning. The board pushed back against the last minute demand. When Trump took the stage, he said the delay was due to NABJ’s audio issues.”

What an elderly snowflake.

[–] aseriesoftubes@lemmy.world 40 points 1 month ago (2 children)

They should have kept pushing him on the “black jobs” question.

[–] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 12 points 1 month ago

They should have kept pushing him on everything. He got away easy time and again by shouting and antagonising and talking over the interviewers.

[–] wildcardology@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

They should have pused him off the stage.

[–] JustZ@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

We know what should be done.

Just do the math and have him answer.

"If a black job just means employment isn't that just a job."

Trump:

1.) "Yes"

Follow up:

"Then why say Black Job?"

2.) "No"

Follow up:

"Then what is a black job"

It's all fruitless anyway, he will meander directly into talking about how immigrants "are bad."

The dood is weird. I'm telling you.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

I suppose he could have tried to say it was any job done by a black person. That might have gotten him out of that.
