I don't need to go through all of trumps offenses for you to know he's truly a despicable person who has never faced a real consequence his entire life.

Shout out to those who didn't win the genetic lottery, I'll cast my lot with you. Real trauma deserves real compassion.

We did it! We finally managed to criminalize being poor! 🙌

[–] Sterile_Technique@lemmy.world 18 points 3 months ago

Jesus would be so proud. 🙏🤡

Because conservatives believe that the class hierarchy is ordained by God, and assisting people at the bottom of the hierarchy is akin to defying God's will by raising their position on the hierarchy. People at the top of the hierarchy similarly deserve to be there, so things like wealth distribution is a similar crime against God. When bad things happen to the people on the top, conservatives believe that everything in our power must be done to prevent their place on the hierarchy from slipping.

Proverbs 31:8-9 - ‘Speak out for those who cannot speak, for the rights of all the destitute. Speak out, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy.’

Deuteronomy 15:11 - ‘Since there will never cease to be some in need on the earth, I therefore command you, 'Open your hand to the poor and needy neighbor in your land.'

Bold of you to assume Christians follow the Bible and not just Supply Side Jesus.

Proverbs

MAGA: that sounds like pronouns stupid fucking woke Bible! Boycott the bible, only God is God and he chose Trump so only Trump is God!

They believe that if you're poor, it's your fault and you deserve it.

Stupid, like most of their beliefs.

It's a religious pitfall called the "Gospel of Prosperity"

If you assume that the righteous are always blessed with prosperity, then it can be assumed that the poor are poor because they are wicked.

Breaks down pretty quickly when you remember that wealthy people can be wicked (Matthew 19:24 makes a good argument that it's difficult for them to be anything else), and that good people often go through really hard times (e.g. Job)

Too bad Jesus didn't have anything to say about how his followers should treat the destitute 🤷‍♂️

What about if you're a criminal. Don't you deserve to be prosecuted?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Are you saying poor people are criminals?

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

They're saying Donald Trump is a criminal

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

No argument from me. He's been convicted.

I guess I don't understand what you're asking then. Someone else said you meant Trump. And yes, he deserved to be prosecuted for his crimes as anyone else does... but I would also say that people should not work against unfair laws that are only designed to hurt people, which would include SCOTUS' decisions to let presidents commit crimes and criminalize the homeless.

Just because SCOTUS made a ruling in Dred Scot doesn't mean anyone should agree with it.

[–] p5yk0t1km1r4ge@lemmy.world 14 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Trump justifies their pure hatred and they no longer have to hide it with him.

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 8 points 3 months ago

hurting the 'right' people (and then some. that's just a 'bonus' for them).

I just don't understand where they're going to sleep. Like how do you pass this law and not think "okay it's illegal, so when someone is sleeping outside we'll fine them/arrest them, then they'll go.....?". Like there is nowhere for them to go. Take it to the extreme and you arrest them all. But then you're paying 80k/yr to house them in jail? You have to give them healthcare and feed them... Is the goal is to spend 80k/yr on every homeless person? Public housing is a fraction of the cost. And if you didn't want to do that, you could just do nothing and let them suffer because you're a callous conservative. But criminalizing not having a home is the most expensive way to house, feed, and insure the homeless.

They never spend one second thinking about the outcome. Like a toddler throwing a fit about not wanting to go to sleep. You can't stay awake forever, but toddlers don't think into the future so they don't realise that they're going to go to sleep eventually regardless. That the only thing they can choose is the time.

[–] blusterydayve26@midwest.social 10 points 3 months ago

when someone is sleeping outside we’ll fine them/arrest them, then they’ll go…

To jail. Because it’s worth $40k/yr/person to build a system that kicks people when they’re down.

[–] Klear@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago

But then you’re paying 80k/yr to house them in jail?

No, the taxpayers are paying that. To your buddies owning the prisons and related services, most likely.

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 6 points 3 months ago

I don't know about the level of the crime and how it relates to forced labor, but my first guess would be "more prison slave labor." Because we're just that horrible of a nation that I wouldn't put it past them for this to be the goal. :(

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

To private jails and prisons, people are commodities homeless people moreso because they have no option.

[–] twinnie@feddit.uk 12 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Homeless people should just sleep in their houses.

[–] fubbernuckin@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago

Yeah dude, Trump got shot for your sins. The least you could do is sleep in your home.

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 7 points 3 months ago

They like Trump because he panders to them and makes them feel good about being selfish hateful assholes. They don't give a shit about other people. It's not hard to understand.

[–] veganpizza69@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago

Conservatism

[–] Ibaudia@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

This is as close as we'll probably get to just having a law that straight up says "it is illegal to be homeless"
