A place for for news, discussion, memes, and links criticizing capitalism and advancing viewpoints that challenge liberal capitalist ideology. That means any support for any liberal capitalist political party (like the Democrats) is strictly prohibited.

6 Be civil in comments and no accusations of being a bot, 'paid by Putin,' Tankie, etc.

I was able to trace this story back to at least mid-2019. (image here via Instagram). She's ostensibly in Andahuaylas in southern Peru.

OP, you found a random image on the Internet with a caption, assumed the story was true, assumed the image was real, and then somehow assumed without anything from the image or caption that this woman is in the United States where ICE has any jurisdiction. Please do better; we need a healthy information diet on Lemmy to set us apart from the rapidly sinking swamp that is the rest of social media.

Good detective skills we need more people fact checking these things. I’ve been trying to find the articles in memes and post the sources I’ve debunked a few and had one end up being a satire article. It’s nice to have stories but when the stories aren’t true that should be known as well

People defending extreme capitalism by way of whataboutism should realize just because there's worse options out there that doesn't mean we should settle with a lesser type of mediocrity instead of adopting an actually better option for society.

Especially today, when those who rose to power due to capitalism are the same ones pulling the ladder up while kicking down those trying to climb, and keeping other people from achieving success as well, which defeats the whole purpose of that system.

We can do better, and pressure is reaching a critical point, just like it did with the other bad and corrupted systems we had before.

Maybe. Things can also get a lot worse.

At least Americans do seem to be waking up to how bad the current US admin is based on the polling. I kind of wish they weren't so stupid as to elect him (or allow him to be elected) in the first place. I resent being here in this timeline.
