Co-pilot, please write me some garbage code for our new Recall feature, and commit it to our repositories. My only request is that it takes up around 42% of the size of all the rest of our code combined. Thank you.

More than anything, this makes me think the CEO has no idea what their company is doing.

Not that I can know better, but it would shock me, or more specifically, that statement specifically is unlikely to be right. Maybe supported by, not written by. Or, can you call it written by AI when it was audited and committed by humans? I hope they're still there.

Or maybe they mean new code? That'd be more realistic.

I kinda figured as much with the recent duct tape inetpub folder cybersecurity fix

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof. This particular claim appears to be nothing more than "we're as good as Google".

Consider for a moment the hundreds of thousands of Microsoft employees over 50 years who have been churning out code and contrast that with how long the current crop of LLMs have been able to even begin to generate something vaguely resembling code, let alone actual code that compiles, let alone works, first time.

In my opinion, this is (and very likely Google's statement) yet another marketing claim with nothing but smoke and mirrors to complete the illusion.

Cue the LLM fans ...

Is that why it's shit?

Is that why Microsoft word makes me want to harm myself and others?

That explains Word. It’s not all enshittification. A good deal of the rampant loss of quality is just old fashioned laziness.

I bet shareholders would like to use AI for 30% of the CEO decisions so that 30% of his salary goes to the stock price.

So your saying that the Recall feature is actually just their in house AI silently trying to get more training data to be a more competent coder?
