So what's happening here is that the carbonic acid in the carbonated water is curdling the milk. You can get the same effect by adding any acid to milk. If you're cooking, your recipe calls for buttermilk, and you don't have any, you can substitute regular milk that you've added a tablespoon of vinegar to (stir, wait about five minutes before adding).

powdered milk alone not disgusting enough for some people

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 3 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

A former colleague many years ago called it 'grated bulls milk' and I've called it that ever since.

Carbonating water creates a small amount of carbonic acid in the water and makes the whole thing slightly acidic. Usually it's not enough to instantly curdle milk but it would certainly give off the same smell/taste as almost expired milk. This would almost certainly be very gross, even ignoring the bubbly milk part

[–] MDCCCLV@lemmy.ca 1 points 10 hours ago

It's also very acidic and bitter tasting if it's strongly carbonated.

[–] frog@feddit.uk 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I see what you are saying. I should use yogurt with carbonated water instead.

Thanks!

[–] makeshiftreaper@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (3 children)

You jest but there's a carbonated Persian drink called Doogh and Milkis is a Korean drink that they remove a lot of the lactose from. It's not a crazy concept

[–] MeThisGuy@feddit.nl 3 points 9 hours ago

i just throw some pop rocks in my cereal

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

Wait my doogh was supposed to be carbonated? It was bitter and I did not like it

[–] frog@feddit.uk 1 points 19 hours ago

Shut down the marketing boys!

Fizzgurt! has already been done.

I really like the continuation. Is there any reason why op did not include instant spoiled milk in the image?

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 52 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Makes me think of that smart girl using pasta water to make coffee.

"Did it taste good?"

"No ❤️"

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 4 points 10 hours ago

I had carbonated coffee once. It did not taste good, like not even a little bit.

who tf eats pasta for breakfast?

[–] Grostleton@lemm.ee 2 points 2 hours ago

How else are you gonna brew coffee?

[–] ugo@feddit.it 10 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

The only way someone would even entertain this idea is if they didn’t salt the pasta water, which is itself a worse crime than making coffee with unsalted pasta water.

[–] Saleh 3 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago) (2 children)

~~If you are using an espresso maker the salt should be irrelevant since the water is turned into steam before precipitating as coffee.~~

See comment chain below.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

What kind of espresso maker do you use? The steam ones were abandoned in the late 1800/early 1900!

[–] Saleh 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

maybe maker is the wrong word. I mean these cans, where you fill water in the bottom, have a sieve inlay to put the coffee and then it steams through to the can above. Okay i see now in English it is called "Moka pot" and there is a debate about the "wrong name" in my native language.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I'm sorry to decieve you but inthe mona pot/bialetti the vapour only pushes the hot water through the coffe.

[–] Saleh 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)
[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

But at least you have good coffee ☕!

[–] janus2@lemmy.zip 8 points 15 hours ago

great way to demolish your espresso maker's tank tho

[–] ftbd 3 points 18 hours ago

If you make it a bit thicker, that sounds like Kefir

[–] abfarid@startrek.website 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What happens if you put powdered milk into milk? Milk²?

[–] janus2@lemmy.zip 6 points 15 hours ago

artificially condensed milk

[–] dickalan@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago
[–] Zagorath@aussie.zone 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That's basically Milkis, a relatively common soft drink in Korea.

[–] TheOakTree@lemm.ee 8 points 1 day ago

Kind of? Milkis has this nice yogurty tartness that I don't think sparkling water and milk powder can give you

[–] 5714@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Cereals with water is already bad, but with carbonated water... is this really necessary?

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

Carbonated milk...

[–] epicstove@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago

That's the type of shit you'd eat in the 18th century as a piss poor beggar who doesn't wanna go into the workhouse.

[–] j4k3@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

I eat cereal with water daily. It is not bad. The trick is to dial in the amount to barely wet the cereal but leave nothing at the end. I use a 1/4 cup measure. Like every morning is 1/4cup of iron fortified 'Os', little honey drizzle, 1/4 cup of: peanuts, fruit and nut trail-mix, and 3/4 cup of granola cereal. That is actually better than anything I ever had when eating dairy. You won't have sinus junk after, and you'll likely have less inflammation related issues, pain, plus feel a little better.

I tried ditching dairy temporarily for two weeks to see how I felt. That was around 4 years ago; never went back.

A broken neck and back are the source of my chronic pain. So your results may vary on that front.
