- Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
- Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
- No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
- Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
- No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

Biden is not the safest choice, and Harris is not a good backup because she is a non-white woman, which means a meaningful proportion of our (frustratingly racist, sexist, and regressive) electorate will simply refuse to vote for her. Pragmatism is the order of the day. I don’t like Newsom for his neoliberal and pro-corporate tendencies, but he’s the best chance to stop fascists from winning this election at this point.
Pragmatism and realpolitik must be the order of the day here. The only questions that the Democratic candidate should be answering at this point is “can you win against the fascists, and will you actually do anything to stop them”. In my eyes, Biden has categorically failed to do the second part; Harris, unfortunately, might not be able to pull out a win due to the prejudice of our electorate; meanwhile, Newsom is a white, heterosexual, wealthy, corporate friendly, vaguely-religious male, who, despite many flaws, does seem to recognize the clear and present danger that fascism poses.
Why doesn’t Jimmy Carter run with Gavin Newsom as his VP?
I mean… we’re trying to get someone who doesn’t have one foot in the grave, too.
Jimmy Carter has the name recognition that Newsom lacks and Jimmy doesn’t look like the villain CEO in every ‘80’s movie.
