Killing with style taken litterally.

Were their stili really that long? I only recall depictions where a stilus is about the size of a pencil, which makes sense as it is intended for witing on not for stabbing someone in a metre distance.

Nah, they're just that big in the meme so you can see what they are. Such stili were generally only a little longer than a pencil, though made of metal and potentially sturdy enough to dig into wood or lead, not just wax, so potentially a little legitimate stabbing potential there.
