He did, however, come out with the single most badass quote of the war, and a strong contender for the most badass of all time.

"The Nazis entered this war under the rather childish delusion that they were going to bomb everyone else, and nobody was going to bomb them. At Rotterdam, London, Warsaw, and half a hundred other places, they put their rather naive theory into operation. They sowed the wind, and now they are going to reap the whirlwind."

The British may have held a bit of a grudge.

Yes, the Nazis had been bombarding the British homeland for years, and early on they feared the country would fall to Hitler. You bet your ass they were ready for payback.
