They don't even sell their 12 packs at 0.99 cents per can on their own website. It's definitely an advertising thing now and only true on paper.

This has nothing to do with the price in store. Just about every manufacturer who sells to end users has to price their products more when purchased direct. If manufacturers are under pricing distributors than the distributors won't carry their product. Its mostly even done now as marketing to give customers a way of seeing what all is available and a way to purchase items not available in every area/store.
