It's probably a reference to how ridiculously, disproportionately violent waffle houses are known to get, and the timing is just coincidental.

European here. Is this actually true that waffle houses can get violent? If so, is there any explanation? I like waffles and never associated them with violence. Never been to a waffle house, though.

Not as bad as you would think, while reading about it. There are a lot of Waffle Houses, so as with any large group some people will be more violent. Especially when the bars close and people get the drunk munchies. Drunk people waiting tend to do stupid shit.

So yes, but only during certain times near bars/clubs.
