World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Israel is, as we speak, carrying out a genocide in Gaza.
A hallmark of which is, of course, peacefully allowing for the 'genocidees' to get vaccinations that prolong and improve the quality of their life.
First sentence actually: "Experts, governments, United Nations agencies, and non-governmental organisations have accused Israel of carrying out a genocide against the Palestinian people during its invasion and bombing in the Gaza Strip during the ongoing Israel–Hamas war."
You know who else was found to have committed genocide through accusations by international organizations, NGOs, governments, and experts? Literally every government that's committed genocide in the history of fucking anything ever because there's not a god of genocide that descends from on high to inform humanity that a genocide has been committed. Like I know this genocide-denying argument is being made in bad faith, but can you at least have some dignity about it and make it seem like you're at least trying to be intelligent?
Actually the UN asserted jurisdiction over the parties and they will have an evidentiary trial on the merits. If all South Africa has at trial is a bunch of fundraising solicitations from NGOs, and "reports" from state media of Qatar and Bahrain, they might be compelled to find against South Africa.
Go read the case of Bosnia and Herzegovina v. Serbia and Montenegro. Sorry international law is more complex than you feel it should be.
And your source is UN Watch, a lobbying group tied to the Israeli government. In the BBC interview, she clearly gets into pedantic legalese about how "the court determined that the Palestinians had a plausible right to be protected from genocide", and the fact that UN Watch is taking that as some kind of pedantic "own" is pretty telling. What's especially curious to me is that this video was posted in April, but you fail to acknowledge that the ICJ a month later ordered Israel to halt its offensive in this case.
Your entire comment history is genocide denial; go deny it somewhere else.
The ICJ – which Donoghue is a part of – speaks for itself, and the ICJ tells Israel to stop their genocidal invasion. Israel as a rogue state run by a far-right government aided by its corrupt supreme court refuses to cooperate with this order and continues to commit genocide.
The quote above is literally a verbatim ruling by the ICJ telling Israel to "immediately halt its military offensive" because it could "bring about the destruction in whole or in part" of the Palestinian people living in Gaza. I'm sorry that basic English literacy is antisemitic to you.
Imagine saying in a public forum that all people of a certain religion, even though most of them do not commit acts of violence against others in such a manner and are children, must be "eradicated" like they're some kind of pest and thinking you are on the right side of the argument.
That's just indiscriminate hatred right there. It's crazy how you consistently barely ever get a positive rated comment in multiple forums yet persist without putting your hand on your consciousness and thinking, what if i am wrong.
