The Thai Army has reportedly ordered the withdrawal of United Wa State Army (UWSA) forces from Thai territory in Mae Hong Son, with artillery units on standby to strike if the UWSA does not comply by December 18.

The UWSA is estimated to have up to 30,000 armed soldiers, approximately 10,000 of whom are based in southern Shan State along the border with Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son.

English summary of the [German] article:

The President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola called on the German government to finally decide on the delivery of long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine, as per German weekly Der Spiegel.

Metsola noted that for Ukraine, “time matters”, and Russia is increasing the pressure — there are only more air targets flying over Ukrainian cities.

Ms. Metsola emphasized that Ukraine “cannot wait forever”, and that there is broad support in the European Parliament for such a decision by Germany.

The debate on Taurus flared up again after the United States had lifted long-range restrictions for Ukraine, and in the view of the upcoming early elections in Germany, but Chancellor Olaf Scholz has been rejecting these claims.

But the upcoming federal election has fuelled the debate: The vice-chancellor and Green leader Robert Habeck had stressed on German TV that he was ready for this, and parts of the opposition saw it as similar. CDU-head Friedrich Merz had already spoken out for Taurus deliveries.

Anyone with an iPhone 15 series device find their USB-C port to be loose? When I have it plugged in the car for CarPlay my cable frequently pops out if I nudge it accidentally. I’ve tried different brands of cables, and all of them wiggle loose eventually.

For context I’m using an iPhone 15 Pro.

A Malaysian court has ordered the country's government to return 172 rainbow-coloured watches it seized from watchmaker Swatch last year.

The government said it took the timepieces from the Swiss company because they featured "LGBT elements" - homosexuality is illegal in Muslim-majority Malaysia and punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

However, a court ruled the government did not have a warrant to confiscate the items and a law prohibiting their sale was only passed later, making the seizure unlawful.

Malaysia's Home Affairs minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the government's legal team will need to "examine the basis of the judgement" before deciding to appeal against the order.

He said the government "must respect the decision, or else it would be viewed as contempt of court".

He went on to say his ministry may appeal against the ruling but must first "examine the basis of the judgement thoroughly".

Authorities raided Swatch shops across Malaysia in May 2023, but an order prohibiting sale of the watches was not issued until August 2023.

Therefore, Swatch had not committed an offence at the time of the seizure, the court ruled.

But the prohibition order has not been overturned, so although the watches - worth $14,000 (£10,700) - have been returned they cannot be sold.

The authorities must hand back the items within 14 days, government prosecutor Mohammad Sallehuddin Md Ali told the Kuala Lumpur High Court today.

Swatch took legal action contesting the seizure in June 2023, arguing the product was "not in any way capable of causing any disruption to public order or morality or any violations of the law".

Homosexuality is illegal under both secular and religious laws in Malaysia.

Swatch described the Pride flag as a "symbol of humanity that speaks for all genders and races", but at the time of the confiscation, the Malaysian government claimed the acronym "LGBTQ" could be found on the watches themselves.

The Swiss manufacturer argued the company's reputation had been damaged and business had suffered after the seizures.

Malaysian authorities claimed the watches "may harm... the interests of the nation by promoting, supporting and normalising the LGBTQ+ movement that is not accepted by the general public".

The Swatch Group declined to comment.

On November 15, 2021, President Joe Biden signed the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) into law. The IIJA included a five-year transportation authorization for U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) programs, plus a standalone infrastructure law representing the largest-ever infusion ($643 billion over five years) of federal funding for surface transportation, including highways, roads, and bridges. The White House hailed the IIJA as “a once-in-a-generation investment in our nation’s infrastructure and competitiveness,” along with making lofty promises that it would “repair and rebuild our roads and bridges with a focus on climate change mitigation, resilience, equity, and safety for all users.”

But the lion’s share of IIJA funding flows into what’s known as “formula” programs that are controlled by states and their departments of transportation, and they decide what to build, where, and how.

Unless these patterns change, we extrapolate that states’ federal formula-funded investments made over the course of the IIJA could cumulatively increase emissions by nearly 190 million metric tonnes of emissions over baseline levels through 2040 from added driving. This is the emission equivalent of 500 natural gas-fired power plants or nearly 50 coal-fired power plants running for a year.
