Can somebody please explain to me how Jennifer Hetrick was never cast as a one-episode Seinfeld girlfriend?

His poor ear looks like it's been infected with space ticks, though.

I hope they got to the root of the problem.

Seriously. One eventually learns most of the ways that Word breaks reality itself to provide mediocre desktop publishing and organizational features in an upjumped text editor, but sometimes you just spam vaguely related keys until it sorta works.

Jimmy in Contracts still has a facial tic from that SoW in aught-nine.

Yeah, that’s the part that doesn’t work. Even if they needed to cram the exposition in between the world-changing call to action and the hero’s refusal, you have to tie them together and give then some stakes: “Before I decide anything, you need to tell me WTF she’s talking about” or the like. But then you need more dialogue and it changes the tone of the scene.

It tracks better to have us drop in on the almost completed exposition conversation/rest and recovery after the sand people attack, before jumping into the next crisis.

And yeah, it’s completely possible that Lucas originally intended for Padme to be the one Leia was talking about, but the point is, the movies don’t actually specify if she meant Padme or the middle wife, so it can still be explained.

  1. Good. What a horrible person. "In the phone recordings, Ryan uses a anti-gay slur against David Coulter, the county’s highest elected official, who is gay. She also referred to Blacks in the U.S. as lazy. 'I’m not systemically racist. I’m a new racist,' said Ryan, who was first elected in 2010."

  2. I'm not sure schadenfreude and relief that some asshole finally found the limits of their insulation from consequences quite counts as "uplifting."

See, I went completely the other direction. We know from the Dagobah scene that Luke already knows Leia is his sister, and he's dealing with some pretty serious parent shit right now, so it would be on his mind. There is almost no reason for him to ask that question and specify "real" mother unless he already knew (from their years of acquaintance by this point) that she was adopted and that this would be his last chance to ask her and get a response uncolored by the impending revelation.

Lucas ignored that addition when making episode I.

I mean.... this is just what he did. A lot. And not just with EU stuff. The mental gymnastics necessary to square the scripts of the OT with the PT would impress Simone Biles.

Sorry. The poster says to give it the beans. 🤷

Literally. They are all forming some kind of axis... of evil...

Note to that Katalin Novák, part of Orban's party, had to resign due to the fallout from pardoning an asshole who was in jail for pressuring child victims to withdraw their testimony against a literal pedophile.

I'm not much of a coder, but even if they're doing something procedural, it can and should still have a blacklist.

Texas A&M bonfire will not return to campus

After a monthslong review, Texas A&M University decided not to bring back the student bonfire tradition it discontinued 25 years ago after a deadly accident, President Mark Welsh III said Tuesday.

For decades, students built a 60-foot bonfire every year ahead of football matches between A&M and the University of Texas at Austin. The tradition was suspended after tragedy struck in 1999, when a stack of logs collapsed in the middle of the night, killing 12 people and injuring dozens, some severely.

Welsh said reviving the tradition would not be in the best interest of the university.

“After careful consideration, I decided that Bonfire, both a wonderful and tragic part of Aggie history, should remain in our treasured past,” Welsh said.

I had these cheap clone keycaps lying around, and I've been wanting to try a southpaw, as well as a no-stabs board that can accommodate sculpted keycap profiles, so here we are. Had to make a few compromises on layout to fit the keycaps I had on hand, but it's feeling pretty usable so far. Outemu dustproof green for MOAR CLICKY.

...maybe a little too on the nose with channeling Horatio Hornblower and Jack Aubrey, there's some truly problematic stuff with the native Medusans that goes all but uncommented upon, there's some reactionary politics that may just be de rigeur for 20th century military sci-fi (I don't know... would be happy to be educated), and the characterizations are almost beside the point, I guess.

On the plus side, the world-building is starting out pretty meticulous in a satisfying way (except for Manticoran dates, which is there for good in-universe reasons, but Weber seems to be using it to be the one ongoing reminder that this the distant future and not exactly England in Space), there's a nice hyper-competence problem-solving ship's crew vibe that will feel familiar to Star Trek fans, and the descriptions of actual shipboard action are very engrossing. Stylistically, there's nothing to write home about, but it's clear prose and allowing for the aforementioned weak characterizations, there's nothing egregious either.

I am cautiously optimistic going forward, and if you had the budget (or could get an animated series greenlit), it seems to me that the universe and Honor herself could be spruced up and modernized into a really compelling space opera franchise that would be well-paced for TV.

If you use the right ink, the right plastic keycaps made for mechanical keyboards, and the right settings on your laser, you can effectively dye-sublimate any design you want.

Welcome to the intermittent hell my brain has been hitting me with for for 25 years.

I still pull this up from time to time and can't help but giggle.

Very solid and mature parametric modeler, and if your workflow doesn't rely on booleans too much, the hobbyist version is generally under $200 for a perpetual license.

Heart Shaped Container FreeCAD Tutorial

Made a FreeCAD tutorial for making this container: https://makertube.net/w/mg7rdKStSUua7AhnAt1RoM I have to warn you that I made a bunch of mistakes and it may be really hard to follow.

So, I figured y'all would be the best people to ask. I make fairly traditional row-staggered hand-wires, but I like them to be stabilizer-free, due to my home tooling limitations and a realization that they work fine. They also avoid one of the biggest pet peeves across the various niches of keyboard people. What is the easiest and cheapest way to come by a handful of convex keycaps at 1.75u and under, to use as spacebars? I can make a lot of different combinations work, so "mix kits" in Cherry or MDA or XDA seem the most likely to be useful, but I'm not sure.

With the sole exception of the Enter key (which at 1.75u will need to be labeled CapsLock or Control for most keycap sets), most keys can be sourced by being a little careful with which sets you get, even in sculpted profiles. Numpads require a bit of care too, as many don't have the two to occupy a "split plus", but they'll usually have something usable for that, as well as a shrunken Enter.

I can find blank keycaps easy enough, and they work pretty well for XDA, but other profiles can get a little uncomfortable on the thumb, and only some benefit from being turned around.
