An early-stages collaborative and open source resource repository for trans people. Seems to be looking for community contribution. NOTE: I am not at all affiliated

Original post from /r/trans:

Hello everyone! 💜

I'm Tamzin, a transfemme non-binary person, and I'm here to share an exciting development that I believe can significantly benefit the trans and non-binary community. I've recently acquired Transgender.org, and my vision is to turn it into a powerful, dynamic, and continually evolving resource for our community. This is my first time posting in r/NonBinary about this project, and I truly value your input and involvement as we shape this platform.

A month ago, we began with a straightforward landing page. Today, I'm delighted to announce that we've launched a new beta version of the site, which is entirely open-source and available in 20 languages! (https://github.com/TransgenderDotOrg/static-site). Our immediate focus is on amassing thousands of resources, and we warmly invite all of you to contribute via our Discord.

But our vision is not limited to being a resource repository. We plan to integrate Erin’s informed consent map, enhance searchability, create custom content on lesser-discussed but vital topics, and eventually launch an exclusive social media platform for trans and non-binary individuals, inspired by initiatives like the Trevor Project.

Simultaneously, we've teamed up with a top-tier law firm to initiate a 501c3 and 501c4, aiming to uplift our community socially and secure legislative protections.

Transgender.org's success relies on our collective effort. Your skills, passion, and unique insights as a member of the non-binary community are crucial. To maintain the relevance and effectiveness of our platform, we're seeking dedicated individuals who can commit 10-15 hours weekly in the following roles:

React / Typescript Developers (2): To enhance our front-end.

Designers (2): We need one UI designer to collaborate with our existing design team and one UX researcher to help improve our user experience.

Content Designers (2): To craft high-quality content that aligns with our brand and design guidelines.

Attorney (1): To provide essential legal support and guidance.

Accountant (1): To assist with financial management and maintain our financial transparency.

Community Managers (2): To oversee our Discord and future social media platforms, ensuring a safe and welcoming space for all.

If you're interested in contributing to this initiative, in one of these roles or in any other way, please join us on our Transgender.org Discord (link available on our homepage). Together, we can create something truly transformative and lasting.

I believe in the power of our community to shape the future of Transgender.org. I am excited to co-create with you and witness the extraordinary impact we can make together. ❤️

Tamzin

I discovered today that my most played game on Steam is Astronner with about 500 hours, and my second most played is Surviving Mars with about 500 hours.

For me it was Event Horizon, that was scary as hell when I was a kid, I had nightmares for months.

Threads Monetization Fears (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

Has anybody considered the idea that boosts from non-Meta properties to Threads could legally be used to build ad profiles? We already know they do that sort of account association with non-fedi accounts.

EDIT: Looks like that's absolutely the plan. From the privacy policy

"Information From Third Party Services and Users: We collect information about the Third Party Services and Third Party Users who interact with Threads. If you interact with Threads through a Third Party Service (such as by following Threads users, interacting with Threads content, or by allowing Threads users to follow you or interact with your content), we collect information about your third-party account and profile (such as your username, profile picture, IP address, and the name of the Third Party Service on which you are registered), your content (such as when you allow Threads users to follow, like, reshare, or have mentions in your posts), and your interactions (such as when you follow, like, reshare, or have mentions in Threads posts).

We use the information we collect for Threads for the purposes described in the Meta Privacy Policy, including to provide, personalize, and improve Threads and other Meta Products (including seamless personalization of your experience across Threads and Instagram), to provide measurement, analytics and other business services (including ads), to promote safety, integrity and security, to communicate with you, and to research and innovate for social good."

EDIT 2: After doing a little more thinking, I've come to the conclusion that the general narrative about Threads plan to steal users from similar federated services ignore the fact that it's certainly cheaper to let the volunteers of the fediverse take on the moderation costs while they monetize the data. Though the two certainly are not mutually exclusive.

This is potentially a very silly question but it also occurs to me that this may be far more complicated than first glance. It could even vary by instance. Are reports sent only to the moderators of the given community or admins as well? Maybe even the admins of the troublemaker's instance?
