Ha, so the lesson there is decant your beer into a tea can and you might get away with it...

(Not really, please people don't drink and drive)

I should probably watch it again to be fair, I've not seen it in quite a while. Maybe I'd like it more this time.

"Bloody yank!”

Oh, how gauche, everyone knows it's white wine for a right turn.

I've always wondered what would happen if you drove along drinking a 0% alcohol beer, and got stopped. Feels like the police would arrest you just for being a PITA.

I'm a big fan of the books who didn't really like the movie. But that's partly because I'm also a huge fan of the BBC TV show so, to me, that's what HHGG should look and sound like. Particularly Peter Jones as the voice of the Book (nothing against Stephen Fry in general).

The movie had some good moments, but having Zaphod's second head beneath his first instead of beside it was a horrible idea. And the joke at the end about going in the wrong direction to the Restaurant at the End of the Universe seemed to suggest the makers thought that 'End' refers to a physical location in the universe as opposed to its chronological end point. Which annoyed me quite a bit.

It's fine though, I'm not one of these "They completely ruined it" people - there are so many different versions of HHGG what with the radio show, the books, the audio books, the TV show, and the text adventure game, that there really isn't a single definitive version. I happen to not like the film, but the rest still exist, so it's all hoopy.

According to Google Lens it's a Great Diving Beetle larva. Cannot verify.

EDIT - tried again, and this time it says it's a Rove Beetle. So I wouldn't put toouch faith in either result tbh.

lefties are much more likely to commit suicide than righties.

That's interesting (and tragic, obviously).

The idea that it could be an environmental thing (pressure to conform in a right-handed world, the schools and church stuff you mentioned) is quite compelling.

On the other hand, the increased prevalence of genius, and alcoholism, suggests maybe something genetic (or whatever) - like left handedness might go along with certain inherent psychological traits, which might also tend more towards self harming behaviour.

I know nothing about any of this stuff beyond a general interest, so I've no doubt it's a lot more complicated than that (and/or that this is just correlation rather than causation in one direction or another) but it's interesting regardless.

Really? Maybe it's a UK thing, I dunno. Very, very common here :-)

One English example is to "hoover" - people say it all the time when they mean using the vacuum cleaner, whether or not it's made by Hoover.

Thanks, will check that out.

Control (shift) + F3 used to do that in MS word.

Yeah, so I've just been discovering after googling to see if anyone had asked before. Shame there's no systemwide method though.

What a game!! Absolute insanity and some unbelievable goals.

Really enjoying Radio Lemmy, have had it on almost constantly :-)

After using the site a few times, I noted a few things that might be worth looking at - not meant as criticism, just some ideas.

Suggestions:

  • Freeze pagination tools of auto DJ library - would make it easier to navigate on mobile when scrolling down the song list. At the moment, when you scroll, you can't see the controls

  • Make the song request message popups (green for accept/red for reject) always appear onscreen as overlays instead of at a fixed point on the page - at present they're not visible when user is scrolled down, especially on mobile

  • Is there a way to filter the library by genre/artist? I can't seem to find it, apologies if I'm being dense.

  • It would be cool to be able to sort the library by date added - so we could see what new songs have been uploaded

Bugs:

  • When sending a song suggestion it refreshes the page, stopping the music stream. Any way to prevent that?
  • I noticed that some songs have duplicate info - eg Pulp - Disco 2000, Stromae - Alors On Danse, and possibly more

I love football sometimes. Get it up you Bayern :-)

No match thread, so made this for discussion

Extremely tenuous AD link here, I know, but this is just so ridiculous, that it could have been part of the show.

I hope he has a good maritime lawyer.

Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope.

Which is funnier?

As nobody had set one up yet, I thought I'd just blue it myself and make somewhere for Reddfugees from /r/arresteddevelopment to congregate on Lemmy instead. Enjoy!
