I have a former school principal in my family and he is very similar in attitude to you. Interesting that it might not just be cops who are all bastards.

I've had this experience with other games too. Some "native" Linux versions won't even launch so you have to use Wine or Proton.
The teachers at my school sometimes bullied the students. I wasn't one of them, but I can't imagine how horrible it must have been for those kids. They were targeted for their appearance and poor grades by kids and adults alike. Yeah, they were cringe kids whose moms dressed them and did their homework for them, but come on.
Anyway, bad (and abusive) teachers exist and it's not just an apathetic admin team that causes this issue. It's not always about liability or reputation, some adults are just awful to kids because their own lives suck and/or they get off on the power.
The average person has no clue how to deal with simple anti-protest tactics like tear gas or pepper spray, so I doubt they'd be willing to risk their actual lives fighting against trained police officers or military forces.
An arrest likely also means being fired and 1/4 of US residents have less than $1000 in savings.
My least favourite pattern is that every time I go to wash my hands, I get the urge to pee.
When people tell me about a project and say, "oh, this took me 5 years to do" it just makes me think, "damn, so it'd take me 10 years to get something twice as bad as this?"

The IWW market themselves as the "global" union. It really depends on their presence in your country, though.
I'm not really a fan of the long wait times between seasons, but I think it's fine if a season is only 8-12 episodes instead of 20 as long as the writing is rich enough to make up for the reduction in runtime. I've been watching Slow Horses for a while (Gary Oldman is great in it) and its seasons are only 6 episodes long, but it's got a lot to it.
