The Church was... not very coherent 4 centuries ago.
Well, just last week there are people that claim to be Catholic publicly praying for the Pope to die. So I guess it's still incoherent. But it was much more so 4 centuries ago.
Yes, the Inquisition was created to stop people from killing each other. But there were lots of places where they did the exact opposite of that. Yes, if somebody started a cruzade at that time they would very likely be excomungated, except for the few people that got support instead.

You shouldn't try to make sense out of low volume changes. Even normal trading is noisy and irrational, after hours trading is completely meaningless.
