crickets

I mean I hope they stop, but they didn't stop with all the bad publicity already, what's another setback.

A look at the darker side of MrBeast’s philanthropy and the wider philanthrocapitalist model it's a part of. Looking specifically at #teamseas and a partnership with Jennie-O, I attempt to untangle how corporations and conglomerates like Coca-Cola, chemical and oil companies, and big meat monopolies all have a vested interest in financing certain ‘philanthropic’ projects while side-lining others. This is a story that takes some surprising twists and turns, from whitewashing, greenwashing & ‘funwashing’ sponsorships, to illegal price-fixing, an endemic of farmer suicides, and leaked corporate emails to influence charities. Examining the roots and consequences of ‘philanthrocapitalism’ tells us a lot about how lobbying works under modern capitalism. This is a long video, but it’ll be worth it to tell this story properly.

If she lives, she'll say Jesus saved her

that's basically survivorship bias, isn't it?

These articles are very easy to write and you can see how emotional people get. You don't need proof and it always works.

Everytime there's an article about what "China/Russia/India/North Korea/or Whatever Says", social media goes:

haha, so fake!

fake news

imagine believing this

propaganda bs

where's the proof?

we only believe in hard facts

no credibility

chinese/russian bots brigading lmao

astroturfing

And then whenever there is "US Says"

so true

I know someone who knows someone who was doing this

I had a gut feeling about this

The boogeyman is real

They're stealing our tech

They're coming for us

We have to renounce them

They're destroying our economy

Enemy #1

They're ruining our western values

US is numba 1

NO FUCKING PROOF REQUIRED!! Anyone questions?

why would they release the evidence, it's classified

I mean fuck all authoritarian regimes, but it's funny to see how social media (especially in US) reacts to these articles and riles them up. Also great for election season.

Standard hypocrisy from propaganda rotted brains at work

If you use on android apps from the playstore, most apps are built to relay their notifications through Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM), so they don't have to have a background notification listeners running 24/7. It also means less overhead from multiple notification listeners from every app having its own. So yes, if an app is built on top of google play services, it requires "google play services"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firebase_Cloud_Messaging

If an app says it doesn't rely on google play services, it uses an alternative notification listener or websockets, which might not be as effective, because Google is inbuilt and won't kill its own apps, the scale of its infrastructure, and its habit of listening on people's activity.

Add in Androids habit of killing background services, and you don't always get your notification when the app isn't in the foreground.

Even Signal from Playstore uses Google Play Services for notifications.

They kinda have to make some bold claims to stay relevant as Apple Vision might bankrupt them into oblivion when it releases.

We've all heard of the dreaded "Rail Replacement Bus". But what if we had Rail Replacement Helicopters instead? Well, in one small village in central Switzerland, they already do

do they remove stories and other bloat?

[–] loki@lemmy.ml 0 points 11 months ago (6 children)

No, they only announced plans to work together with devs to make the transition to mobile easier. It wasn't a "all addons will work on Firefox android" announcement. Hopefully most popular addons transition

I know the phrase. How is Medium going to extinguish Mastodon is what I'm asking. For someone to EEE, they'll have to own it first. Mastodon is still an independent organization.

[–] loki@lemmy.ml 0 points 2 years ago (3 children)

how are they going to extinguish a open source project with this?

Anyone else felt like those inflammatory posts against tiktok weren't natural? Turns out it was true.
