Another attempt by imperialists to shift attention from their wealth hoarding by scapegoating immigrants who are the real value creators: they pay taxes to sustain public services, but also benefit the rich with good value labor. Rest of the population would complain: oh, no! immigrants now are lowering the bar for life quality, while in fact they aren't the real enemy. Hopefully people would see right through it.

The Canadian economy experienced a contraction “unprecedented outside a recession,” according to a new analysis from National Bank Financial, a trend driven, at least in part, by a population spike that has squeezed per capita GDP growth.

The bank’s monthly economic analysis says that “signs of an economic slowdown have been multiplying.”

“Consumption stagnated for the second quarter in a row, a stinging setback in the current demographic context characterized by record population increases,” the report says.

The recalculated GDP per capita — which the bank’s economists had estimated had contracted by 2.4 per cent — now sits, they say, at a 4.4 per cent contraction during the third quarter.

The report also finds that while Canada’s inflation rate is at 3.1 per cent, costs for shelter are growing at six per cent annually.

The first nine months of 2023 saw the single fastest population growth since Confederation. Around one million people joined the Canadian population in that time, exceeding growth in 2022, already a record year for population growth. Since July 1, 430,635 people have come to call Canada home.

Less consumerim and lower GDP is the way: living a happy life with the advent of technology should theoratically allow us to work 1 day per week and dedicate the rest of the week to be spend with family and pursuing personal interests, all while having reliable public services like health and transport, while maintaining an ecological lifestyle so the offspring could inherit a healthy habitat. People need to unite to make this a reality, because we are weak when we are divided. We don't need flying cars nor Mars to be populated, a sustainable future is easily achievable for the bottom 80%.

I am aware that the use of such source is frowned upon. Nonetheless, the elonjettracker dude got busted from X© and now has his own sub. Interesting content to say the least, and it does help put things into perspective. Also i hope Lemmy implements flairs as a feature, this post could thus use a discussion flair, to signal that such content is up for debate.

A lithium-ion battery pack has about 0.3 MJ/kg and about 0.4 MJ/liter (Chevy VOLT). Gasoline thus has about 100 times the energy density of a lithium-ion battery.

gasoline is 100 time more energy dense than electricity, thus even inefficiencies at 70% for IC engines, gasoline would still be more dense somehow. But there is alot of geopolotics and environement issues involved with fuel. The problem of energy density needs to be resolved for electricity so it would be more convenient to use, even at the industrial scale, which is a major carbon emitter.

electricity is cool, but its not the only source of energy used in the country: fuel is also a source of energy and needs to be replaced. The amount of electricity consumed in France is about 470 Twh, and the amount of Joules used overall is equivalent to 1500 Twh, per year.

How to Make Biofuel at Home: From Crop to Car

Using biodiesel requires modifications to the vegetable oil itself; using straight vegetable oil requires modifications to the diesel engine.

The engine starts on diesel fuel, but switches to run on vegetable oil after heat produced by the engine warms the vegetable oil to about 160 degrees Fahrenheit.

Before shutting off the vehicle, diesel fuel is cycled through the fuel lines to purge the system of vegetable oil.

A single-tank system preheats the vegetable oil using electric heat and uses modified injectors and glow plugs that are optimally suited to ignite and combust vegetable oil.

Thanks in part to a grant from the National Center for Appropriate Technology, an organization that promotes technologies that conserve energy and resources, we have retrofitted a Kubota tractor with an Elsbett single-tank fuel system to run on straight vegetable oil produced in eastern Montana.

If we confirm that a single-tank system is a viable option for running a tractor on straight vegetable oil, we plan to grow an oilseed crop and produce our own fuel.

The PEAS farm also houses a biodiesel processor to convert used cooking oil to biodiesel for the Garden City Harvest tractor.

Basically, biodiesel is produced by a chemical reaction involving vegetable oil, methanol, and potassium hydroxide or another catalyst.

We took 20 gallons of used fryer oil, strained out the food particles, and pumped the oil through a series of braided hoses and copper valves into a recycled water heater.

As the oil cycled through the processor, we took a sample and tested it to determine the amount of potassium hydroxide we would need to add to the used oil.

From 20 gallons of used fryer oil, we produced 16 gallons of biodiesel.

Utilizing salvaged materials, the biodiesel processor at the PEAS farm was put together for about $150. Local restaurants give away used vegetable oil, and methanol can be purchased for $4 per gallon.

The legal issues concerning use of veggie oil as a fuel and home production of biodiesel are complicated and vary from state to state.

Laws concerning straight vegetable oil are changing, but it's still technically not approved for use as fuel by the EPA. And your state may require you to register to collect waste vegetable oil.

The use of straight vegetable oil has demonstrated promise as a fuel alternative for our Kubota tractor.

As we reach the end of our Christmas reality check, the cynical contradictions of Christmas stand glaringly exposed. Despite its image as a season of joy and giving, Christmas in its current form is fraught with issues that extend far beyond its religious and cultural roots. The holiday's deeply ingrained consumerism not only exacerbates economic disparities but also contributes to environmental degradation on a massive scale. Beyond the tangible impacts, Christmas exerts a considerable psychological toll, amplifying stress, loneliness, and mental health challenges. The physical health of individuals and the strain on public health systems can't be ignored either, with marked increases in health emergencies and lifestyle-related ailments during this period.

its about outsourcing emissions to China, but wouldnt mind really since they are proactive about forestation and other approaches ..
