Indeed, I accept this post as a valid interpretation of the rules. I'll allow it. We haven't had a floaty soundscape before, but I was prepared to accept new types of floating. Now that you've added some context, it makes more sense. I had to delete your double post, though.

Church choir music? Are you lost? I can kind of see how the slow overlapping lines have a floaty heavenly sound, I guess? While this post doesn't technically break any of our rules, I'm not sure this belongs on Floating Is Fun.

Double post of this post, deleting...

I've only actually played the first game, but as I understand it, NiGHTS is a high-ranking Nightmaren just like the monstrous bosses they fight. NiGHTS happens to be powerful enough to be independent. Whenever the other Nightmaren mug a dreaming visitor, if the visitor keeps hold of one of their Ideyas, NiGHTS finds it more fun to help the visitor wreck everything instead.

Edit: corrected NiGHTS to they/them pronouns (and while I'm here, you can still get the Steam version of NiGHTS for free)

NASA astronaut Kjell Lindgren corrals the supply of fresh fruit that arrived August 25, 2015 on the Kounotori 5 H-II Transfer Vehicle (HTV-5.) Visiting cargo ships often carry a small cache of fresh food for crew members aboard the International Space Station.

I know I've posted photos of ISS astronauts opening shipments of fruit a couple times before, but it never fails to put a smile on my face. I also like it when I come to Floating Is Fun and find that someone else posted a floaty thing here. Keep 'em coming!

Thank you for these #balloons , but around here, we link to our sources! Even if it's a simple URL like https://www.ebineyland.com/works-02/#gallery_thumb_7159332291 , that's enough to satisfy rule 2.

Hey @saucechan@ani.social can you find us some more sauce links?

That flying broom delivery service game I Kickstarted and posted here before is finally out on PC and Switch! I'm holding onto it until I can stream again, but as of half an hour ago, everyone else can get it now. The floaty vibes are strong with this one.

I realized my last three posts here were all the same type, and on Wednesday I'm totally using it again on Wednesday, so I needed something completely different here. If you have fish swimming in the air, how do you catch them? Find a perch high enough and hope the fish don't look up.

By the way, this artist at least had Twitter at some point, but I couldn't find it because it changed usernames at least three times or just got deleted. It's probably not worth the effort to track it down anyway.

would've been fun if the local magazines were somewhat more active.

I'm trying! :P

I originally chose Kbin/Mbin over Lemmy because of the added support for Mastodon-like posts, but it's still suffers from wonky early adopter stuff. I still rather like Mbin's interface more than Lemmy's defaults, though Lemmy's support for third party front ends is very cool. Whichever way you go, I'm happy that Mbin and Lemmy have access to all the same content. Mbin could grow more if some of a magazine's custom CSS could federate to other instances, or if it supported bots like Lemmy.

Oh dang, I'm gonna have to look into PieFed, though. That looks good! I'd like to see how my community looks, but I think a registered piefed.social user has to do this community lookup for federation to begin.

Sometimes artists on Instagram and Tumblr don't give their artwork titles, but they write a block of text instead. Normally, I represent the titles as faithfully as possible in English, but I edited this one down. I hope that's OK. Please don't curse me; I like witches!

Ah, good pick. I had this one on my ~~bingo card~~ post queue too. The original is absurdres and too big for SauceNAO, so I had to feed it pixiv's 1200px version instead. Does your setup have problems with big images like mine does?

20 years ago, I used Tony Hawk's Underground's ingame creation tools and some GameShark codes to add NiGHTS into the game. The game actually takes it pretty well despite not being designed with flying skaters in mind. Enjoy this blast from the past!

Today's Floating Is Fun's 3rd anniversary, and it's recap time! The first year was on Reddit and the second year post was delayed by our migration to the Fediverse, but we're celebrating on time this time.

After a year of independence from /u/spez, we've grown into one of the strongest communities on Fedia! With this post, we have 653 threads, the most of all Fedia communities, though the even more buoyant @hydrogen@fedia.io will overtake us within the next few months. We have 547 subscribers and I am thankful for each and every one of you. Some new posters are leaving their marks, and I no longer have to carry all the posting by myself. I can now slow down on my posts so I can maintain higher quality and participate better with other Fediverse communities. Maybe I'll finally polish our janky experimental RSS.

Here are your top ten posts between August 14, 2023 and August 3, 2024:

This past year, witches and magic users made the biggest impact. You know there's a whole community for @imaginarywitches@lemmy.dbzer0.com, right? Number one went to Kiki, celebrating her movie's 35th anniversary this week, in a crossover with Nausicaä, which had its 40th anniversary back in March. I didn't post nearly enough real-life examples of floating because they're harder to source correctly, but I'll try harder next year. No one posted any original content between last year's recap post and this post, but hopefully this will change.

I appreciate all the support we've received on the Fediverse. Let's make it the best place to post stuff we like! Spread the Fediverse love.

Until next year, don't let gravity keep you down!
