Thank you for these #balloons , but around here, we link to our sources! Even if it's a simple URL like https://www.ebineyland.com/works-02/#gallery_thumb_7159332291 , that's enough to satisfy rule 2.

Hey @saucechan@ani.social can you find us some more sauce links?

That flying broom delivery service game I Kickstarted and posted here before is finally out on PC and Switch! I'm holding onto it until I can stream again, but as of half an hour ago, everyone else can get it now. The floaty vibes are strong with this one.

I realized my last three posts here were all the same type, and on Wednesday I'm totally using it again on Wednesday, so I needed something completely different here. If you have fish swimming in the air, how do you catch them? Find a perch high enough and hope the fish don't look up.

By the way, this artist at least had Twitter at some point, but I couldn't find it because it changed usernames at least three times or just got deleted. It's probably not worth the effort to track it down anyway.

would've been fun if the local magazines were somewhat more active.

I'm trying! :P

I originally chose Kbin/Mbin over Lemmy because of the added support for Mastodon-like posts, but it's still suffers from wonky early adopter stuff. I still rather like Mbin's interface more than Lemmy's defaults, though Lemmy's support for third party front ends is very cool. Whichever way you go, I'm happy that Mbin and Lemmy have access to all the same content. Mbin could grow more if some of a magazine's custom CSS could federate to other instances, or if it supported bots like Lemmy.

Oh dang, I'm gonna have to look into PieFed, though. That looks good! I'd like to see how my community looks, but I think a registered piefed.social user has to do this community lookup for federation to begin.

Sometimes artists on Instagram and Tumblr don't give their artwork titles, but they write a block of text instead. Normally, I represent the titles as faithfully as possible in English, but I edited this one down. I hope that's OK. Please don't curse me; I like witches!

And now for something completely different! Hi all this is Kenzo, trying my hand at illustration, purely for fun. My daughter absolutely loves witches so this is a mum and daughter witch gathering clouds in bags. I’m thinking they sell cloud candy at fairs. She liked it! by lovelifedrawing: Instagram #levitation

Ah, good pick. I had this one on my ~~bingo card~~ post queue too. The original is absurdres and too big for SauceNAO, so I had to feed it pixiv's 1200px version instead. Does your setup have problems with big images like mine does?

OK, so most of you don't care about my video posts and are only here for the cute art, so here's some cute art. Here's a tip for you: While we can't link directly to pixiv's image files, there's an unofficial proxy called pixiv, cat that allows direct links to full quality pixiv art. If you don't mind using that tool or its API, it'll save you the trouble of reuploading your full size images to Catbox or whatever. It might also be OK for cases like this where the artist requests for their art not to be reposted.

It's close, but I give it to Ocarina of Time. Both were genre-advancing technological achievements of 3D and cinematics. Neither of them are the best in their series, with better games before and after these. But Ocarina of Time is more fun in combat and in glitches, so it's better.

The better debate is what's better: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past or Super Metroid. Both, of course!

20 years ago, I was hooked on the PlayStation 2 Tony Hawk's Pro Skater games and their online scene. My friends and I made a lot of videos! My best video was this one where I use the ingame creation tools and a little GameShark magic to add NiGHTS from NiGHTS Into Dreams into the game with his flying and techniques recreated as closely as possible. This was a lot of fun to make.

This video is from the pre-YouTube era, we would put music in our videos. The songs used here were Jazz Fingers by Busdriver and Highway Robbery by Dillinger Escape Plan, totally nothing like NiGHTS's soundtrack, haha. I had a free trial of web hosting with 1&1 (now Ionos) and I uploaded all of my clan's videos there. In 2009, that site shut down and I finally uploaded all of its content to YouTube, hence the 2009 upload date there.

20 years ago, I used Tony Hawk's Underground's ingame creation tools and some GameShark codes to add NiGHTS into the game. The game actually takes it pretty well despite not being designed with flying skaters in mind. Enjoy this blast from the past!

We've had pedal-powered dirigibles before, but they were all out of reach for regular people. ParaBounce made a strong attempt to manufacture such airships and let people come and pay to fly them in a safe indoor space. This didn't really get off the ground, though it may have inspired the Aéroplume in France which is open to all today. Can we get dirigibles in the Olympics someday?

It took me three years to post one of the most popular artworks on pixiv's floating tag. That'd be like buying an SNES and then playing it for three years before finally getting around to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. i probably would have done it this time list year if we weren't busy respawning. Better late than never.

Today's Floating Is Fun's 3rd anniversary, and it's recap time! The first year was on Reddit and the second year post was delayed by our migration to the Fediverse, but we're celebrating on time this time.

After a year of independence from /u/spez, we've grown into one of the strongest communities on Fedia! With this post, we have 653 threads, the most of all Fedia communities, though the even more buoyant @hydrogen@fedia.io will overtake us within the next few months. We have 547 subscribers and I am thankful for each and every one of you. Some new posters are leaving their marks, and I no longer have to carry all the posting by myself. I can now slow down on my posts so I can maintain higher quality and participate better with other Fediverse communities. Maybe I'll finally polish our janky experimental RSS.

Here are your top ten posts between August 14, 2023 and August 3, 2024:

This past year, witches and magic users made the biggest impact. You know there's a whole community for @imaginarywitches@lemmy.dbzer0.com, right? Number one went to Kiki, celebrating her movie's 35th anniversary this week, in a crossover with Nausicaä, which had its 40th anniversary back in March. I didn't post nearly enough real-life examples of floating because they're harder to source correctly, but I'll try harder next year. No one posted any original content between last year's recap post and this post, but hopefully this will change.

I appreciate all the support we've received on the Fediverse. Let's make it the best place to post stuff we like! Spread the Fediverse love.

Until next year, don't let gravity keep you down!
