I guess marketing getting rolled into that number, as opposed to movie budgets where it is usually separate could make up for it. Or it includes lots of long-term investments similar to the huge stage surrounded by screens ("the volume") that they used for the mandalorian. Although I am not aware that acolyte did something like that.
Countless examples of movies and shows with way smaller budgets that end up looking a lot better than most of the recent Disney slop.

Yeah it's pretty insane, for that kind of money it better be fantastic. Although I think nowadays the link between money and quality (to whatever degree it ever existed) is weaker than it's ever been.
I've always wondered, how do streaming movies make money at all? Does Netflix really make enough money to justify spending this much on a movie?
Well they certainly make enough money, last quarters revenue was roughly 9.5 billion dollar. Sure you got server costs, salaries and licensing for old content that eat up a lot, but if you are getting over 3 billion per month from your subscribers you should be able to find some budget for expensive content.
I don't think a movie like this will be efficient in $/h watched, those will go to cheap series and people putting on their favorite comfort show in the background for the 10th rerun. But they probably still need those big tent pole movies for psychological reasons. It's good for marketing towards new subscribers and for user retention you will need the occasional blockbuster movie. Don't need to be that many per year, since as said the vast majority of time will be spend watching some simple stuff, but you do need fresh content for the occasional movie night. Or people will start looking at the competition that offers those and which also has plenty of mindless entertainment.
But at least right now they are only available in expensive bikes, so not something your average bike rider would buy anyways. I doubt you'll see many electronic shifters on people's commuter or city bikes.
Unless they come down in price and go mainstream, it's only two groups that buy them: actual athletes, where those marginal gains do make a difference and are worth the downsides, and enthusiasts with enough money to spare for their hobby. For the latter value or everyday practicability are probably less of a concern.
And yet it carried a $180m budget, more than something like dune part 1 (and slightly less than part 2).

Unless laws are made to make this fundamentally illegal, they'll just keep pushing until it sticks. And once one manufacturer succeeds, they'll all follow.
The issue is that I bet modifying the firmware will have consequences on insurance and liability in case of an accident. Regardless of whether or not one is at fault or not, and that it didn't have any effect

I can't really see Apple market the usage in kitchens. The reality is way to messy and i'd imagine that you would see dirty or even damaged units in no time. I don't think that would go well with Apple's clean design and brand image.
Wobei die Kontrollen auch bei nicht chinesischen Händlern doch bestenfalls marginal besser ist. Das zeug von Aliexpress/Temu etc gibt es doch auch auf jeder anderen Seite, nur halt teurer und eventuell mit anderem Label. Und die im Artikel angesprochenen Dark Patterns sind auch absoluter Standard, besonders bei Cookie-Bannern. Wobei Temu/Aliexpress natürlich die gameifiziering auf die Spitze treiben.
In diesem Fall ist es ja eh eine private Belohnung, mit ihrem eigenen Geld können die eh machen was sie wollen. Und ehrlich gesagt auf Deutschland hochgerechnet würde die Gesamtsumme dieser Prämien als Einmalzahlungen eh verschwinden ohne signifikant etwas zu bewirken. Damit baust du doch wahrscheinlich nicht Mal ein einziges Schwimmbad (geschweige denn finanzierst den Betrieb oder stellst Trainer ein).
Aber ganz generell denke ich schon, dass es auch diese Form von Spitzenförderung und Belohnung braucht. Ein Problem in Deutschland ist auch, dass man in Nischensportarten kaum etwas verdient. Besonders im Hinblick auf den Aufwand und auch Kosten. Und außerhalb von Sportsoldat oder -polizist gibt es doch praktisch kaum Laufbahnen die auf Höchstleistungssport ausgelegt sind oder? Nicht so wie die Amis mit ihren Sportstipendien oder die Chinesen mit staatlichen Programmen.
Und besonders für die Nischensportarten braucht es ab und zu schon ein bisschen Werbung damit sich Nachwuchs dafür interessiert und auch damit identifizieren kann. Beim Fußball ist das einfach, da will dann jedes Kind z.B. Müller, Kroos, Lahm oder Neuer sein. Begeister mal ein Kind für einen Sport bei dem du keinen einzigen Deutschen spitzen Sportler nennen kannst.
Nicht das es Förderung von Breitensport nicht auch bräuchte. Aber außerhalb vom Fußball und ein paar anderen Sportarten könnte ein bisschen mehr an der Spitze wahrscheinlich auch nicht schaden. Wenn das jemand selbst fördern will, warum nicht.
