also fire every single cop in the country and replace them all with people who actually believe that they're supposed to protect and serve.

My opinions about guns have changed over the years. I used to be of the opinion that nobody should have guns in this day and age, what's the point aside from ego boosting and sport.

Then a cheeto puff did a treason on jan6.

I'll give up my guns only after the fascists give up theirs. Non negotiable.

You want to "prevent tragedies"? fund programs for welfare and healthcare. Tax the rich. Break up megacorps like google, albertsons, nestle. Enact and enforce employee protections. Raise the minimum wage. Ban airbnb and heavily tax empty residences. Universal basic income! Did I mention fixing the healthcare system? More that I'm forgetting to list.

Miserable parents make miserable kids, and miserable kids lash out. For the wealthiest and most powerful nation on the planet, this shouldn't be hard to figure out.

well, it's not the first time I've been called a communist for saying that people deserve rights.

the tech side of .ml is why I haven't blocked that instance. They genuinely care about privacy and FOSS, as is the instance description. When I joined lemmy, I considered .ml for my home instance.

As soon as politics comes up though, the tankies come out in force, and oh boy the temptation to get banned is real.

If you're on a road trip, and you can't agree on a destination, then arguing about the route to get there is pointless.

in this analogy, the "destination" in question is whether or not women/lgbt/blacks/jews/etc deserve rights. No point in discussing healthcare policy with someone who thinks women should be property and gays should be executed.

As a person with a full time job, a significant other, and several hobbies, I just don't have time to invest in learning a new operating system. I grew up with windows (95, 98, xp, 7, 10), so that's what I'm familiar with. I recently switched to linux (mint), and it's fine. Just getting started though is something that was rather involved, and I would never expect a normie to be able to figure out. If microsoft wasn't insisting on making win11 a dumpster fire, I wouldn't have bothered. Now that things are running smoothly, there's some minor annoyances that I'd really like to change, and the prevailing sentiment from the linux community is "that's just how linux is" or sometimes "here's a hacky workaround that barely works in only certain controlled cases". It's better than it was 10 years ago, so there is that.

anyone else miss how you used to be able to simply set all the colors and fonts for things yourself? And it was easy. It wasn't just light theme or dark theme and those are your only two options, but really whatever you want.

windows xp truly was peak windows.

(everyone should switch to linux, btw)
