A private company getting private investment? I would expect that there are plenty of string attached to improve, otherwise it'll be nationalised and the investors will lose their money.

If not, then it's just a slight delay for 6 months until they run out of cash again.

I fucking loved Willy's Wonderland.

Who the hell doesn't love Nicolas Cage?

I know plently of straight people who haven't been in a proper long term relationship for 15 years.

Dating fucking sucks these days.

What's that got to do with being gay?

I don't understand how anyone can support Farage

Mr Farage's trip was paid for by Christopher Harborne, a British tech investor based in Thailand.

It's a guy who wants to interfere with international politics. He probably doesn't believe in Farages politics, but he doesn't live here so he doesn't care. He just knows that Farage would give him a sweet deal, or the Tories would to try and gain his vote. £30k is the cost of making another million.

In November 2022, Harborne donated £1 million to The Office of Boris Johnson Ltd, one of the biggest donations ever made to an individual British politician.[

He's scum.

I had this issue with Reddit. You need a lot of houses, making some available doesn't fix the issue with the vast majority.

And thats fine. I'm just letting you know how I feel about this.

Banning short term rentals is one thing, but can we please at least request that hotels fill the gap that this creates?

Good news! Following up from this https://feddit.uk/post/18671151

The men's World Conker Championships winner has been cleared of cheating after a steel chestnut was found in his pocket.

I wouldn't visit.

I have two children, and the number of hotels where I can get joining rooms so I dont have to actually share with them is basically zero.

We can, but very few people own a second, let along a third or fourth.

Either they are landlords and running it through a business, and how do you prevent a business from owning two locations?

Sorry Londis, you can only have one store because you have a flat upstairs?

Or they own them privately, and in this country its massively overstated. Presumably to try and start a bit of class warfare, but folks see US news and think it applies here.

Fucking Tories, making the crabs pull everyone back into the bucket when there really aren't that many. Even Shelter doesn't call it out as a problem, compared to the many other things we could do to help.

[–] frazorth@feddit.uk 3 points 1 week ago

We're only short by about a million. That'll fix the problem!

So these could be houses that people don't actually want to live in? Maybe because work isn't there, or the cost of repair too high?

I remember some of those houses, as I was in Wavertree near the Botanic Gardens, Matalan and the burnt down pubs around 2000 and you couldn't give away some homes just a bit further down Picton.

How is learning C++ and QT not programming?

[–] frazorth@feddit.uk 17 points 1 week ago (5 children)

While this is true, learning some kind of programming - shell scripting or BASIC in olden days - is a very useful endeavor.

And learning sewing is useful, but I dont need it to wear clothes.

Currently, landlords that have HMOs with four people or less occupying them do not need a licence.

Reading Borough Council wants to extend licensing to all HMOs across the borough for those with three to four occupants.

Pretty depressing reading.

There are lots of things that can be put down to personal taste, however I can't let this abomination go.

I am referring to Branston Smooth.

I love Branston Pickle, but I can't get on board with Branston paste. Is there a better example where a manufacturer made an updated version of a food that was objectively worse?

In addition to BBC and ITV showing the matches, Netflix had been documenting the time between the 2023 and 2024 Six Nations.

West Berkshire has the highest number of school exclusions in the county.

And it has more than twice the number of school suspensions in state-run and special schools under its control.

Government data says 1,263 suspensions were issued in West Berkshire in the 22.23 autumn term to 532 pupils.

That compares to 569 in Reading, 401 in Slough, 406 in Windsor and Maidenhead and 358 in Wokingham.

A few games have been shown on the World Rugby website, but not via YouTube directly on their website, it's unclear why but does anyone know how to rewatch these matches if you missed them?
