I'm getting a lot of 'but my car is more convenient' arguments lately, and I'm struggling to convey why that doesn't make sense.

Specifically how to explain to people that: Sure, if you are able to drive, and can afford it, and your city is designed to, and subsidizes making it easy to drive and park, then it's convenient. But if everyone does it then it quickly becomes a tragedy of the commons situation.

I thought of one analogy that is: It would be 'more convenient' if I just threw my trash out the window, but if we all started doing that then we'd quickly end up in a mess.

But I feel like that doesn't quite get at the essence of it. Any other ideas?

Just came across this article about a book titled:

The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood Is Causing An Epidemic of Mental Illness

I haven't read it, but I'm a little concerned that the article has zero mention of the built environment. Thoughts?

Genuinely scared seeing Logan's in lap. I almost wonder if need a medical meatball flag, seems wrong to tell driver it's their call because they'll inevitably push it too far.

I wondered during the race: why were they allowed to put the car back on track after the 'retirement'?

Is there really no rule to stop that? Like could you conceivably crash, be brought back to the garage, repaired, get back in and rejoin the race? I guess there's little reason to (excepted in a contrived situation like this), but I'd always assumed that was not permitted.

So, what hadn't clicked until I watch this video, is that federal taxes don't 'pay for things', they are just the mechanism by which federal government ensures the currency has value: They compel us to pay taxes (via courts, police, etc.) and those taxes must be paid in the same currency, and so we have to do work to acquire that currency, and so it has value.

This other video at 29:43 also blew my mind, I just never thought about tax in that way, and it's embarrassing.

A video explaining modern monetary theory and how with a little Marxism it can benefit everyone.
