I still would take an extra mm for more battery life. At this point it's no difference if it's a bit thinner.

Duh fuq.

I wonder how many people would give their social that easily.

How does this appeal to people? I like goldfish the same. Though Whales are cheaper and taste okie.

I would have dug the moosetang tbh

Have you heard of adblocking?

[–] csm10495@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

There was talk that the next version of Android will have a full terminal with some sort of Linux emulation. Would be cool if that allowed running the Linux version natively.

Honestly good on them for keeping the spirit alive for just about everyone who isn't a direct competitor of theirs.

Let them make some money to continue to fund it. They even invalidated all sponsorships because of the license change.

Unless you personally were willing to fund whatever they make on their integration, then this is an ok play in my book.

I've always wanted to meet that 1 out of the 10 who don't. Probably would be interesting to have a beer with.

[–] csm10495@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yep it was in the dryer at 55C after the first print for several hours.

[–] csm10495@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Weird as heck but without any cooling it printed fully just fine. Thanks for the advice!

[–] csm10495@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Honestly not very different timing: maybe 25 minutes instead of 20 to be failing.

Trying more than 1 is an interesting idea. Too bad I don't need more than 1 lol. Maybe I'll print a benchy elsewhere on the plate. Though why wouldn't more cooling help offset similarly?

This is an interesting thought. I wonder if the support tree is leading to more seams leading to issues. I'll try it tomorrow with a different support structure that would change the seams.

Hey folks,

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I'm printing PETG (https://kingroon.com/collections/petg-filament?) on my Neptune 3 Plus. It's sort of like it starts (almost) ok, sticks to the plate just fine, then a few layers up it seems to almost have inconsistent extrusion (or maybe even trouble pulling the filament?) leading to holes, etc. till the model just falls apart. See linked photos for about where I give up each time.

I'm printing with Cura and 240C printing, 90C on the build plate. 45mm/s (I've gone down from 60mm/s). Retraction on, no z-hop. 60% fan, though I've tried it with 20% and 100% fan as well.

The filament is in a dryer at 55C. Funny enough I printed basically perfectly (without drying, straight out of the bag) with default settings the first time I printed. The second time and on, have had this problem... and have had it in the dryer.

Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Edit: In case its useful, I'm printing this piece: https://file.io/D9jxYq4KOrL7 which is a small remix of a piece from https://www.printables.com/model/130507-bolt-action-pen-for-pilot-g2-cartridges

Finally got around to making a botchmania ending. Enjoy!

For example, I opt out of all emails from a website. A year later they make a new newsletter and auto subscribe all to it.

I login, hit unsubscribe, then report as spam in my email client.

I figure auto adding me is more/less spamming me. Do y'all agree?

At one point I thought that if the Government was giving money for EV chargers, they would be either at-cost or free to use.

One of the first built was at a Flying J truck stop in Ohio.

I looked on plug share and found one in Hubbard, OH and it's 67c per kwh (https://www.plugshare.com/location/582660). The average cost of electricity in that area is less than 15c per kwh. At that kind of price, gas could be a cheaper option.

Why does the government subsidize in a way where already wealthy companies get public money to build chargers, and make a ton more money off the rest of us?

(This is not a political statement at all. I just don't understand why public money goes to make certain private folks more wealthy. I figure I must be missing something).

Thanks for your thoughts!

Anyone having a new issue where swiping from the left to go back to the thread list from a thread doesn't load properly and instead shows a black screen for a second or so.

So I was using a wood sealer (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AQTX3XU) on my newly built catio. Unfortunately I didn't notice how much I had sprayed on the adjacent window.

Now I have cloudy/foggy windows (https://imgur.com/a/TKD9wim). I've tried cleaning them with:- - - -

  • water via the hose directly on the window.. very little progress
  • windex.. very little progress
  • dish soap followed by host.. very little progress
  • vinegar.. very little progress

Any ideas for what might get this stuff off easily?---

I wouldn't be as worried about them going out of business and me being stuck with half broken car software.

Hey folks,

Is it possible to have a mlmym endpoint for sh.itjust.works? Maybe old.sh.itjust.works?

I know the lemmy ui has come a decent ways.. but sometimes I just want to look at it like old reddit.

lemmy.world has one: https://old.lemmy.world/

If not: no big deal. if so: would be cool.

Obligatory: this was yesterday (1/20/24)

In the US 1/20/24 was the last day to buy stamps at the old postage rate. The flat rate for postcards was 51 cents and was going up to 53 cents the next day.

They have a concept called forever stamps for regular letters and a similar thing for postcards. If you buy them today at today's price, you can use them at any time in the future regardless of price increases. So if you'll mail letters or postcards, they're a good deal and future investment.

So anyways we ran to the post office at 4pm. The office was closed except for the self service machine. We need about 90 postcard stamps so I figured I'd get 100 to have some extras for the future.

I was so excited to see postcard stamps for 51 cents. I took a picture: https://i.imgur.com/M997Nfg.jpeg

So we bought 100, which happened to be the most we can buy at once.

At that point the machine began printing 100 individual 51 cents stamps.

Now you may have noticed the issue: it wasn't 100 postcard stamps, but rather 100 stamps each saying 51 cents of value.

It took a long time as each stamp was printed one by one, but I got to stand there sad as I didn't get my forever postcard stamps.

Now to mail my postcards, I'll need to buy 2 cents of postage each (or more when it goes up again). I'll be more careful next time.

Tldr: I bought 51 cent stamps instead of postcard stamps for 51 cents.

Edit: commented with an update after a few days.

Hey folks,

I'm going to pause the bot at this time. The community didn't quite take off at this point, so for now I'm going to recommend using !SquaredCircle@kbin.social. I don't have the time to put in the love needed to grow it at this point.

If another member or mod wants to be added and give it love, let me know. For now I'm limiting posts to mods only.

Say you have a script or something that gets run in cron/task scheduler and it needs a password.. say to ssh to a raspberry pi elsewhere in your house.

How do you save that password in a way that automation can access it?

Some ideas:

  • Plaintext file. Not a fan because its sitting unencrypted on the box somewhere.
  • Environment variable. Not a fan because its still unencrypted somewhere to someone on the box (albeit likely the same user or an admin).
  • A secrets manager. If I use something locally like hashicorp vault or infisical, I can get to a point where a cli/api call gets the password. Though in this case I still need a vault password/secret to get my password. So I fall back to needing one of the above to get this to work.

If the secrets manager is easily available, the secret to get into the secrets manager is available as well leading to a feeling of security by obscurity.

If someone breaks into my system via SSH/etc. then they can get the passwords either way.

.. How do people normally do this? I'm not sure I actually get anything out of a secrets manager if its local and I have the disk itself encrypted before login.

What actually makes sense at a personal/home scale?

(Edit: I know using SSH key probably is better for getting to the raspberry pi, but still the question is the same idea).

.. its a website run by the US Government. Why does it have such large downtimes in this day and age?
