Our brains don't think in terms of statistics, we are very bad at numbers. That's a scientific fact, see Daniel Kahneman's "Thinking, Fast and Slow". So to say that if 20% of the world prison population is located in the US then it's normal to think about the US when you hear "solidarity confinement" is plain wrong. There's no media bias like with school shootings either, you don't read about US prisons in European media every week. Even the mainstream US media don't talk about US prisons much. Somehow you fail to see that in the discussion about Danish and Swedish prisons one should probably consider Danish and Swedish prisons.

Or, look at the stars…

Today my horoscope tells me to not use github in particular and avoid compiling any code in general.

I placed a scratching post next to the couch and bed so that the cat can't damage the furniture. As of the carpets, they are quite robust and cheap to replace, I'm on the same boat with you. Good thinking!

This is so satisfying to read lol. The USA-centrism is so annoying, especially prior their elections.

I mean, while the dude definitely needs to pay better attention to compartmentalizing his job and private stuff, can we not move past the tired old idea that being a sexual entity is some kind of horrible thing?

Does the text suggest that idea? The issue is that the teacher was using a school computer to store and watch porn. In a class room. The unintended video playback is just one of many potential consequences.

and how it’s common enough that people have a casual laugh over their “shat myself” stories

That's how we deal with the trauma.

Social media would be drowning in negative posts about Bill Gates if they were a thing in the 90s. The only difference, perhaps, is back then the industry was still at its early years, it was quickly evolving, so many brilliant people had a chance to achieve something too. Today, it's huge corporations where each individual has virtually no impact.

I decided to post this link because I personally didn't expect that to happen:

Regional carrier Voepass said in a statement sent to Reuters that the move was "necessary" as it now has one less aircraft in its fleet of ATR turboprops. Voepass said the measure was aimed at "minimizing potential delays and flight cancellations." Daily flights to nine locations will be interrupted at least until Oct. 26, when Voepass will reassess its network while planning for the next season, it said.

While the article does not specify how many planes they currently have, it seems that the number falls into the "not enough" category.

Hitler? Nah, I'd leave that to you guys.
