I love how on firefox you can ctrl+scrollwheel to make text larger or smaller and it persists on that site. (awful is at 140% for me)

Yeah, wikipedia editor is weird and has long history doesn't come as a huge shock to most people (im looking at it from the neutral side here). Doesn't help that the format is a hugeass long blog, and Rationalist writing tends to feel very off-putting to normal people ("Feels obsessive if you need +20 pages to make a case."). Think people would care more if this wicked editor was the head of some group which feels like a large cult, and has weirdly large influence on the tech industry, or linked to a large scam. TWG is also quite a weird guy himself. Or this part of his defense "Sure. Given that, do you endorse the choice of outlets like PinkNews and Huffington Post as reliable sources given their history of fabrication and errors, as discussed in the article?" Being against PinkNews makes you look weirdly anti-lgbt, and being against the huffington post in the current year is weird as their era of clickbait bs articles is long behind them and they actually write news.

So yeah no big surprise that when it breaks containment nothing happens and nobody really seems to care. There is a funny parrallel between TWG's post and our sneering at LW. If you forgive me quoting Gaiman: "It it is the prerogative of the fool to say the emperor has no clothes. But in the end the emperor is still emperor and the fool is still a fool."

E: It prob also doesn't help TWG's case that when people look up David they see he is an anti-cryptocurrencies person.

E2: what is interesting is that this place seems to be the best documentation of all the different arguments going on about the post. We seem to link all the various places it is talked about, none of them seem to actually point back. (And of course it was posted on r/destiny and r/kotakuinaction2 (no idea why it is nr 2 now). And remember how we joke about how Rationalists have high school traumas?

Now that is a name I have not heard in a long long time.

I’m not sure what the second paragraph in reply A is referring to

To understand themotte you need to realize these are rightwingers/centrists (according to them) who are just marinating constantly in the culture war. About half of the posters there have their brains basically turned into rotten soup and they think that everything is an attack on 'their way of life'/genes.

No idea why people stay there when every other comment is some weird hateful argumentative piece of shit.

Lol how has that user not been banned yet. Clearly somebody with a very specific axe to grind.

And of course the Rationalists start to the things they accuse others of doing. How quickly the pretense of civility disappears.

Ow right, forgot about those whole damn emails. Amazing that after that shit Trump just takes the boxes home and puts them inside his shower. But wait I hear you think. Shower, that was in the toilet. No, look again at the image behind the first row of boxes is a shower curtain (you can see on the left side the marble gets higher, as you should tile a shower (it is mandatory like that in .nl at least)) and what do we see behind that curtain on the right? More boxes! Sindriiiii!

More details.

Wow, they actually succeeded at their plans. I'm impressed. "we expect to be much more careful than other companies to ensure that recursively self-improving intelligent agents don’t form within our game and break out onto the internet!" Well done!

Sorry never heard of the Assange -> Trump gets elected connection, care to explain? (E: turns out I had, I had just forgotten how crazy everything was back then, and how hypocritical they all are compared to now)

I heard the bs thing that GG caused Trump (def not big enough, also international) or that the media mocking him and daring to run helped, etc. (It prob was a combination of everything).

Surely they can tell us what they actually worked on in the gaming space in the past few years. Right? Right?

Edit: (I recall hearing stories about roguelike developers using AI to help produce roguelikes, the conclusion was (this was more than a year back btw) it works great if you just need some quick content, dialogue trees, stuff like that. But there also was one person who was trying (and failing) to create a roguelike in which all content was LLM created. Didn't seem to work well. (Which is funny in a way, as this mirrors the experience of PCG (procedural content generation) in roguelikes a ~decade earlier. Good tool for small parts, doesn't scale to properly interesting content. I should ask how the LLM stuff is doing now).
