Well it was you who implied that a distro shipping the DE with wayland has to do extra testing that they don't do. I just replied stating that distros are testing and validating for wayland to be the default.

X works for me.

Good. No one is stopping you from using it.

The fighter has an intersex disorder which makes their sex ambiguous to anyone that doesn't have access to their medical record, and she has been disqualified from competing in past events due to failing female tests, Olympics is one of the few places to allow her to compete.

Do you have a source on the intersex disorder claim. I have seen a lot of articles claim that XY DNA was found in her samples by IBA but the IBA never released their medical results nor what tests they conducted.

Considering that Ubuntu, Fedora and any distro with Gnome or KDE as the default DE already come with Wayland as the default, it is clear they have been testing their own shit when it comes to Wayland and then shifting to Wayland by default.

Me too!

I am guessing that is because the internal displays in laptops are connected using an embedded DisplayPort(eDP) and not HDMI

[–] Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Not anything about HDMI 2.1 VRR, it probably only supports VRR via DisplayPort Adaptive Sync.

I verified from the user manual that the freesync is supported over HDMI 2.0(Its a budget 1080p monitor so no HDMI 2.1). The issue seems to be that the HDMI forum has not allowed code necessary for FreeSync HDMI in the open source drivers. Fuck proprietary solutions. I hope that DP (through usb-c or mini DP) becomes the standard even in budget laptops which currently come only with HDMI.

Well I usually look past the auto generated answer because that is not 100% accurate. Digging through many forums, I found comments like these which caused some confusion. The common thread between everybody claiming to have FreeSync is that they are running X11. I just thought since adaptive sync/freesync is a hardware feature, if(and it is a big if as I dont think VRR works for them even if it shows as enabled in the X11 configs) these people have it running on X11, maybe there is a way to get it running on Wayland.

There was this article as well which added to the confusion.

Well frankly, I dont actually care much about VRR. The post was only to gather information because I saw some conflicting info. I agree that expecting an implementation of a proprietary spec in open source is foolish and people should be willing to make some sacrifices in exchange of freedom. What I do request is that you dont be ass about it when you recommend DP.

[–] Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de 15 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

In some ways, pushing people towards DP is good because it is a better spec than HDMI for the consumers in general and for the open source community specifically. The issue is that people are too zealous in recommending and pushing it.

In my case, I dont care much for VRR (Years of playing on crappy hardware have made me somewhat immune to tearing). I was just curious hence the post. Switching to display port is not an option since my laptop has no DisplayPort support whatsoever.

[–] Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah I am aware that DisplayPort has adaptive sync support but my laptop hardware limits me to HDMI. Believe me I would much rather be using DisplayPort

[–] Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de 12 points 1 week ago

My laptop has no DisplayPort. Hell the monitor came with a DP cable as standard but because my Laptop has no DP port(not even through usb-c), I had to shell out for an HDMI cable

I recently made a post about my FreeSync certified monitor not supporting VRR over HDMI. I thought that there was VRR support over HDMI even for versions below 2.1 spec. Am I mistaken in my assumption¿? Has the HDMI forum prevented the implementation of FreeSync in the open source drivers¿?

Obligatory fuck the HDMI forum and the HDMI spec.

[–] Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 week ago

Yeah I agree that HDMI sucks but unfortunately my Laptop doesn't have any Display Port and my USB-C port doesn't have display port alt mode.

I have never seen Freesync over HDMI work.

Is this your experience on all OSes or on Linux only¿? AMD does mention on their website that many displays support freesync over HDMI.

I have a AMD CPU + AMD dGPU laptop and recently bought a LG FreeSync monitor. I hooked up the monitor to my laptop and got it working mostly fine but I dont get any option to set VRR on my LG monitor.

I am on Gnome and have enabled VRR through gsettings. My laptop display shows the option to toggle VRR (and is currently being used with VRR on) but my LG display does not. The Archwiki says that the option to toggle VRR should show up on every supported display. I have verified from the user manual that FreeSync is supported over both HDMI and DP and from the monitors menu, I have verified that FreeSync is enabled. Is this a bug or I am missing something.

Hardware and Software

  • Ryzen 5 5600H with Vega integrated graphics
  • Radeon RX 5500M
  • Internal Display of 1080p, 144Hz (I have no idea which panel it is)
  • LG 24GS60F-B monitor connected over HDMI 2.0
  • uBlue main 40 (Fedora Silverblue 40)
  • GNOME 46.4
  • Kernel version 6.10.3
  • Mesa 24.1.5

Thanks in advance for the help.

Odd. Can you share which application is it that you are trying to install. Maybe it doesn't create a desktop file hence the lack of an launcher in the app drawer¿?

So there are these two monitors - Samsung Odyssey G3 LS24AG32 and LS24AG30. Both of them are practically the same but the LS24AG32 is 165Hz and the LS24AG30 is 144Hz. Since they are both VA panels, I was worried about severe ghosting. All the reviews I find are for LS24AG30 which has what I find is an acceptable level of ghosting but I the only model available on my region is LS24AG32 so I am wondering if it uses the same panel which would mean a similar level of ghosting. The issue is that the old model of the Odyssey G3 had terrible ghosting so I am worried about the LS24AG32. The LS24AG32 model comes with a AU optronics M238HVN02.0 CELL but I couldn't find any information for the LS24AG30. Can somebody help me. Thanks in advance

Since there is no F1TV community, I am posting here. I am trying to watch the pre season test on my phone running but am running into the error in the picture. My phone is running lineageOS 20. Is this a widevine certification issue¿? Is there anyway to resolve this¿?

Edit : Further phone details - Motorola G60. F1TV app used to work normally with the stock rom(at least it did last year)
