When they slaughter civillians they always make these claims. Instead of calling out their lies, the allies of Israel instead put the burden of proof of innocence on the victims, and by the time the lie gets exposed fully, Israel moved on to have committed a dozen more massacres.

Well, the announcement came as Israel made a new offensive into northern Gaza, ethnically cleansing the area and slaughtering more journalists and doctors and after UNFIL made statements about being threatened by the IDF.

So it seems to be about showing support for these actions in a plausibly deniability kind of way.

It is also a veil for anti-muslim racism, painting antisemitism as "imported" by muslims (despite German Nazis being the main perpetrators of antisemiticm crime) and taking the support for Israel as "proof" of not being bigoted.

Bonus points for using it to attacked progressive leftists and label them as antisemitic or terror supporters without having to engage with their demands. Also the fascists from the AfD and now the CDU are using it to push around the less fascist parties. They made "unconditionally supporting Israel" a ritual to prove how good or bad people they are. So when the AfD demands something in regards to Israel the SPD, Green and others try to top it. Can't be that the Nazis are better friends of Israel than they are...

Meanwhile these things are used to repress non zionist Jews, who get disproportionately affected by getting their funding cut in culture and science, being excluded from events and even being attacked by "anti-antisemitism commisioners", with accusations like being "allegedly jewish". So Germany is back to classifying who are "good" and who are "bad" Jews.

It has nothing to do with logic or consistent values. It is a psychotic hysteria.

On top of what was said already, i strongly recommend this podcast with the Jewish-German Journalist Emily Dische-Becker https://thedigradio.com/podcast/the-german-question-w-emily-dische-becker/

Here are some points of what she talks about extensively and much better than i could.

The fascists (AfD) have realized that they can push around the less fascist parties by being the most pro-Israel. This has lead to the infamous "BDS-resolution" in 2019 where anyone who suggests boycotting, divesting or sanctioning Israel to be called antisemitic and subsequently used to exclude people from culture and science. Ironically despite making less than 0.5% of the population, Jewish people have made up about 25-33% of the people cancelled over alleged antisemitism for being critical of Israel.

Also since about 10 years both the Nazis but also "middle class" conservatives/reactionaries have realized that they can use being pro-Israel and fighting antisemitism as pretense to hide their anti-Muslim, anti-brown racism and white supremacy.

Despite typical far right Nazis making up over 80% of the perpetrators of antisemitic crime, there is a whole debate of "imported antisemitism", again blaming it on Arabs and other "brown" people.

So basically by claiming to have learned from history through staunchly and unquestioningly supporting Israel, Germans can tell to themselves that they aren't white supremacists any longer, while happily aiding in the murder and repression of non white people and also they can life out their antisemitism by classifying Jews as "good", when being aligned with the official German line and Israel and "bad" when being leftist and critical. Now they can persecute the "bad" Jews while claiming to do it in the name of fighting antisemitism.

This is especially useful for the "social democrats" SPD and "green" party. This way they claim to be still in their anti-bigotry tradition while embracing their inner nazis. Incidently over the passed years they have brought forth many policies that are socially and ecologically regressive, surpassing the former conservative CDU of Merkel on the right.

The wall was built in 1961

[–] Saleh 10 points 1 month ago (4 children)

As nobody tried to sneak in from the West that is silly. Also people from the West could easily visit the East as long as they exchanged some money.

The GDR calling the Wall to imprison its own people some sort of protection has nothing to do with the problems of Nazis making careers again in Western Germany. These spanned police, military, politics, administrations, judges...

It is a big problem of its own, especially now that it shows how little was learned from German history and with Nazis like Hans Martin Schleyer being glorified.

But none of these justifies the Wall in Berlin and the other border between East and West Germany.

I would consider the daily fascist flag ritual the pervasive thing here. If someone wants to swear by his faith that seems much smaller of an issue to me.

Incidently it seems fascist nationalism and other totalitarian political ideologies to have been at odds with religion in their times and places. See Hitler and Stalins regimes as examples.

The colonizing people of the world see themselves in Israel.

The colonized people of the world see themselves in Palestine.

I dont know who said it first, but it rings true every day.

Eastern Germany also called the wall built to keep its citizens in an "antifascist bullwark"

[–] Saleh 63 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

The German chancellor just announced today that they will send more weapons to Israel, as now would be the time to be steadfast by their side. The foreign minister gave some bullshit of "the weapons need to be used in accordance with international law" veil...

I am so tired of this country proudly descending into the worst of its past.
