The above dress is from a UK store called Apricot. Similar stores might be Oasis.

Seems like a basic safety/planning kind of question since you’d be in the middle of a body of water

I think so, too. Swimming with a life jacket in my opinion is more difficult than swimming without one. However, I would think that treading water is more difficult than swimming with a life jacket so maybe if swimming with a life jacket is the expectation, then that's ok.

Backing it up one step further, a common beginner mistake is to decide on a destination irrespective of the wind direction. This sometimes makes sailing more difficult than it needs to be and can result in the unnecessary torturing of guests as the captain stubbornly pounds into wind and wave to achieve a destination not superior to other options that would provide a more congenial travel experience.

this is really helpful, thank you!

If you want to take someone sailing on a boat and you ask them if they can swim, what exactly are you asking? Everyone can float if they have a life jacket right?

My understanding is that someone is being asked if they can take care of themselves and/or tread water until they are rescued and/or if they are a strong swimmer, but I could be wrong.

420 or laser type boat

I've recently learnt to sail but when I'm on the water, all of my theory goes out of my head. Can someone please explain the steps of sailing or confirm what I've written below?

  1. check the wind direction
  2. think of where I want to navigate to and point the boat relative to the wind.
  3. think of the points of sail. For the boat's position relative to the wind, change the main sail to the respective point of sail and the wind will catch the sail.
  4. use the main sheet to keep the sail in the "point of sail" direction that the wind should be in.
  5. make very small movements to keep the boat going straight towards my target
  6. once i'm going straight, check the sail if it's luffing periodically and trim the sail if necessary

when tacking,

  1. use the tiller to turn the boat around, either pull it fully towards or away from me
  2. once the boat is turned around, pull the tiller so that it's now straight and you can let the tiller handle lay on the side of the boat
  3. switch sides as usual

thank you!

I am interviewing with a company where they are offering $65K/year in NYC for an analyst (junior level) role. The senior analyst position is $85K/year. These salaries seem extremely low for NYC (although I'm not from NYC or even the US). What would be an appropriate salary to ask for for a junior analyst role? It involves financial modelling. I want this kind of job but I also want to be able to live without too much stress.

this was a weapon that's possibly used in medieval times (definitely long before 20th century). The main part may have been a sword and the hilt could be unscrewed or somehow used as a club. Thanks!

I am from HK and have travelled around Taiwan, etc so it would be nice to find some dishes that are close to home

Would this type of dress in navy blue be too much to attend an Andrea Bocelli concert?

many east asian dishes included some ready made sauce like 豆瓣酱 or 柱侯酱 in chinese cuisines or 고추장 in korean cuisine. These sauces make our dishes delicious but unfortunately they are very high in salt and/or sugars. Is there some way to make the dishes with these sauces from scratch or without such high salt/sugar? We often have to add sugar in the dish in addition to the sauces. Thanks.

I'm sure this is a similar problem in other cuisines but my question is just about east asian cuisines.

edit: i'm referring to homemade food, not restaurant food.

When i was very young and learning beginner spanish, i thought it was taught that in some parts of latin america, they use some plural form instead of tu when speaking. Is this correct or am I misremembering?

For example, pad thai should be balanced between sweet, sour, and salty. Indian dishes don't have meat as the feature in a dish but rather it's added for some texture; the dish itself is the feature. Hunan cooking is dry and hot and often sour and differs from Sichuan cooking which it's often compared against. Generally speaking in Asian cuisines, if you don't cook the spices exactly correctly, it will change the taste of the dish quite a bit.

As a francophone, i can say that french-based cooking is an art as the ingredients are traditional basics that are in season. The food should be delicate or have a cut (e.g. a creamy cheese should have something acidic to cut it like a nice wine). It is the combination of the techniques (method of cutting ingredients like julienne style or method of cooking like flambee, saute, etc.) to create the dish.

Recently found Bronx and Banco and it looks very similar to Self-Portrait. Is the quality different?

I'm obsessed with tailored high waisted shorts (example: https://endlessrose.com/products/copy-of-tailored-shorts) and dolfin shorts for every day and after swimming

Do you have a source on that?

I can't see (in Chinese culture at least) that the cheapest colour would be used for something like a wedding, it would not reflect well on one's family to use something cheap. The reds i'm referring to are bright reds, like jewel red, not like a dull/muddy red

Auto bonds increased in kind, as lenders packaged those loans together and sold them as securities on Wall Street, where ratings agencies labeled them as largely safe investments.

can you explain this in layman's terms? this means the loans that people take to buy cars, they got packaged together and sold as an investment for other people?

That’s like saying there’s not a lot of difference between saying “me beat” or “beat me.”

no, that's not the same thing. the difference between "colored people" and "people of color" is similar to the difference between "a red apple" and "an apple that is red". In English, an adjective can be placed before a noun or after a noun, with the latter formatted with a preposition such as "of".

Edit: not sure why i'm being downvoted here - do you all not speak English? If you give a comparison it should be apples to apples, not apples to pineapples.

It seems like a lot of people complain about not seeing content but then don't contribute any content themselves. Like, posts are old because there's little new content, so maybe everyone can help contribute to communities. Content doesn't miraculously appear.

It's worse because it's not wrong. The movie was released in 1988 and the recommended age to start screening was lowered to age 45 because of the increase in colorectal cancers among young people.

Someone who is 45 in 2023 would be born in 1978.
