I created an SMS to Email gateway back in 2011 when data was still expensive on phones and I was trying to see if I could turn an iPod Touch into an iPhone. (I was a poor student at the time, was trying to find ways to save money ๐Ÿ˜…)

Basically I had a 3G modem plugged into a Linux server that could receive the messages, a prepaid SIM card with a long life credit expiry, a domain name set up with unknown email address capturing, and some tools to handle the actual SMS part.

At the time I published the scripts I used online and apparently they're still online ๐Ÿ˜… This is on Whirlpool which is an Australian telecommunications forum.

It even works when you reverse the order of the steps!

But wait, most people are going to plug these bricks into their phones or tablets, yeah? Those have data connections we could surely piggy back off so rather than a one time or irregular phone home we could have real time data on where the cables are and how they're being used. And we can release an app they run on their device to capture that information that shows a nice pretty dashboard of when they charge their devices, how much power they use, etc.

We then use that as the justification to move the entire product range to a monthly subscription instead of a yearly one. We can even remove the sharing restrictions to begin with, and then add them back later with a family tier, and eventually prevent cables from being away from the registered home base for a predetermined length of time.

We could then add an upgrade tier for those that do need to use their cables in other locations.

...Is this the kind of logic that goes through their heads?

See the problem here is the price. At $30/yr that's worth considering. The problem is they'd charge $30/mth.

Vote on that thang!

The article says a free version isn't available, that isn't accurate:

https://apps.apple.com/au/app/yaba-snashiro-2-lite/id6630365688

You're limited to 3 games and it has ads, but it does exist. Probably good enough to test if it works for your favourite games.

I know it wasn't likely the cause, but the "Pokemon go to the polls" quote still lives rent free in my head over how cringy it was ๐Ÿ˜…

That good advice, thank you, will definitely give that a shot!

I have Ventoy on a USB stick, tried to use it recently for DBAN and it didn't work, is there any way to get around that these days? Haven't looked into it recently.

This I think is the key here really. Without pitting Lando first, Oscar likely (not guaranteed obviously but likely) wins. So the only reason Lando was in a position to win was because the team decided to do something they believe was needed to secure P1 and P2.

That being said, ever since getting his first win, Lando's been chomping at the bit for a second one. Every race since that he hasn't won he's been incredibly down on himself. I hope the team are getting him someone to work with to work through that, and that they're realising what his state of mind is like when these types of things happen during a race.

Given the partisan nature of the Supreme Court at the moment, anyone who thinks a Democrat trying to use these powers that they're saying the president has would get away with it is extremely optimistic at best.

Disappointed for Oscar, he deserved the win today but now it's gonna feel like it was given rather than earned. That being said, am really happy for him getting his first win on the board, and I'm sure it won't be the last for him, he's driving really well and the McLaren car is performing vs the competition at the moment.

I heard the commentary team say he's the only driver this season to be in every lap all season, which definitely doesn't hurt either.

Dawntrail is now live for everyone! We hope you're enjoying your time in Tural โค๏ธ

Surprising no one, the final day of countdown illustrations is the newest melee class added in Dawntrail, the Viper! They totally got this piece commissioned and are now negotiating to slay some local vidraal to try and pay for it, so if you have some work, please, let them know ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

Rounding up the last of our pre Dawntrail jobs, it's the tank with the knife you can still bring to a gunfight, Gunbreaker! Also known as "three DPS in a trenchcoat" the Gunbreaker gives everyone the chance to act out their favourite scenes from Final Fantasy VIII and gives you plenty of buttons to keep you busy while you take the hits for the rest of the party.

Due to a huge increase in demand for today's illustration the White Mage from the massive uptake of new hires into the Viper Blade Sharpening industry that the Deputy Directory of Turalism has promised includes White Mage Insurance, it is now required that anyone coming across from Eorzea to Tural does so as a White Mage. Thank you for your understanding.

Few things are as important fell cleave as the bond between a warrior fell cleave and their Chocobo fell cleave. Standing on the front line fell cleave they are more than capable of taking fell cleave whatever the enemy has to give fell cleave, with plenty left in the tank for another 10 rounds fell cleave.

The full patch notes for Dawntrail are now available? Are you excited with what's coming?

๐ŸŽถ The bard opened up their case and said "I'll start this show", and fire blew from their fingertips as they rosined up their bow ๐ŸŽถ And they pulled an arrow across the string and it gave an evil hiss ๐ŸŽถ Then a band of voidsent joined in, and it sounded something like this ๐ŸŽถ

For honor. For Doma. For Eorzea. For those we have lost. For those we can yet save. Today's illustration is the Samurai, and they feel right at home when the odds are against them. Don't let their light robes fool you, a quick flick of their wrist and you'll be out before you know what's happened!

They'll likely post an updated version during maintenance but for now this is what's been released about the upcoming changes.

Shields? Check. Nouliths? Check. Kardia? Check. Prognosis? It's time to shoot lasers at the bad guys until they stop moving! Sage is the healer that Square-Enix gave us to demonstrate that yes, healers are in fact supposed to be doing damage as well. So raise a glass to your local Sage, and just remember, if they're busy shooting lasers, they're still healing their tank. Only a week to go now!
