Sorry for another “Is this autism or normal human behavior?” Post.

I don't think you have to apologize for this. Seeking support with these situations is one of the reasons this community exists. It's even explicitly stated in the sidebar under encouraged:

  1. Questions regarding autism.
  1. Seeking and sharing support.

Ask away!

Thank you! The way I'm handling it now is that if I were in a similar situation like yours with your friend, I would just distance myself from them. If we were together and they started making me feel bad, I would just leave. I don't need to endure emotional distress because someone else is rude to me. I can just leave.

Yes, thank you! If I can't joke about being autistic with someone, I don't become their friend. Thanks to therapy, I have been really selective with who I allow in my life, and it has made a major welcomed difference in my quality of life and how I see myself.

That sucks about your friend's inflated ego, but I'm happy you see it so you can adjust accordingly.

I feel this post so bad. I'm autistic but according to people that know me well, I'm also highly intelligent. Yet, when I first meet people without masking, they treat me as if I were stupid. This is such an issue in my life that I have often joked about getting a shirt that reads, "I'm autistic, not re****ed", but my NT friends have said that it's a bad idea. Anyway, this happens until a situation presents itself in which my intelligence is demonstrated, then people treat me as some sort of genius/savant. It's ridiculous, but I'm used to it.

I'm really confused about this. On one hand (✋), I can see how dating an autistic person would be amazing because we would just understand each other on another level. We would get each other's emotions, meltdowns, joy, special interests, hyperfocus, communication style, etc. Also, there's no NT partner to miss whatever NT thing we don't bring to the relationship.

On the other hand (🤚), we definitely have some deficiencies that NTs don't. Having an NT can help us regulate, keep us updated on social matters that we completely miss, take care of a baby that's wailing crying, and other strengths that we just don't have, while at the same time, we contribute with our own strengths that they don't have.

NTs, please feel free to contribute! Your opinion and experiences are important too 🙂

I'd love to see a discussion on this topic. So what do you think?

I used to think I like walking on the balls of my feet because it provided more shock absorption than heels. The heels hit too hard, and it feels wrong tho the military did train that out of me.

This was a SpaceX Falcon 9 Block 5 launch from Cape Canaveral that occurred around 1900 local time on March 4th, 2024. The photo was taken from about 65km from the launch site. The rocket was in the 2nd stage.

Here's a video of the launch, but you can't really see the aura since the video is taken from the ship pointing at the rocket nozzle.

Image: 4 panels organized in a rectangle following a sequential order like a comic strip. The first panel is of a man with a very serious face stating, "Hey man, got any diphenhydramine?" The second panel is a grainy picture of the actor Tony Stark with a slightly inquisitive face and saying, "What's that?" The third panel is an identical copy of the first image and saying, "Benadryl the allergy medicine." The fourth and final panel is a grainy picture of Tony Stark rolling his eyes and taking a deep breath.

This meme is based off of a real life experience. I knew a guy that was taking NyQuil to go to sleep. I told him he'd save a lot of money and his liver if he just bought diphenhydramine since that's the substance in NyQuil that's making him drowsy. He said. "What's that?" I obviously responded, "Benadryl the allergy medicine," and he seriously sighed and rolled his eyes at me. He was so sick of my crap 😆

Edit: Yay!! I'm so happy people like a meme I created 😁

Edit: Tony Start -> Robert Downey Jr. I didn't know that Tony Stark was a character Robert Downey Jr. played 🤦‍♂️

Image: Two images almost identical to each other stacked vertically. The top one is the back of a neck of a person wearing a sweater with the tag sticking out. It is captioned "What it looks like". The bottom image is the exact same image but the sweater's tag has been replaced with a cactus. It is captioned "What it feels like".

Image: A person writing on a large chalkboard the size of a large wall covered with mathematical formulas and notes. The caption reads, "My autistic mind trying to figure out if she's into me, she is indifferent or she absolutely hates me."

Ok, but seriously...I can't tell when girls are flirting with me. And sometimes, girls act like I'm flirting with them when I am not in any way whatsoever. What is the process NTs use to add meaning to social interactions?! Maybe we can figure this out logically.

Let's see how much we have in common with our backpack inventories.

Since ARFID^1^ and ASD are pretty common together, I'd figure there would many of us in here that share similar issues with eating. Those of you that relate to ARFID, what are some strategies you use to maintain a healthy diet?

1: Avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) is a feeding or eating disorder in which people avoid eating certain foods, or restrict their diets to the point it ultimately results in nutritional deficiencies. This can be due to the sensory characteristics of food, such as its appearance, smell, texture, or taste; due to fear of negative consequences such as choking or vomiting; having little interest in eating or food, or a combination of these factors. People with ARFID may also be afraid of trying new foods, a fear known as food neophobia. Wiki

Trying to get an idea of how NTs see us. I know that when I see autistic people, I see someone that's like me. Obviously, that's not how NTs perceive us, so what do we look like to yall??
