“It is a click bait article, Sire. It is not welcome here.”

Intellectuals re-watching the trilogy:

This is my new favourite Lemmy post of all time, so... Congratulations?

I mean, there's a couple scenes with slightly awkward CGI. But definitely not 10.

The only one that always leaps out at me is the cave troll, which gets positively video-gamey in a handful of shots.

Remember the barrel scene from Hobbit movies? It's very videogamey but honestly one of the most fun and memorable scenes in that failure of a movie trilogy loosely based on Tolkien's works

The ent attack on Isengard shows its age if I remember correctly but it’s not wildly egregious

Still better than most CGI today.

The article now has 15 ways. Some are valid complaints, some are nonsense, almost none are actually about it aging poorly.

Their list

  1. No female main characters interact throughout the trilogy
  2. It is implied that every orc and goblin is evil
  3. Frodo's reunion with the Fellowship is ultimately underwhelming
  4. The movies lack diversity
  5. The story takes a while to get started
  6. Some main characters lack agency
  7. The heroes seem invincible
  8. Some characters show up momentarily
  9. Certain visual effects look clunky
  10. Elijah Wood's acting in some scenes is awkward
  11. It will inevitably be rebooted
  12. The Hobbit trilogy condenses the timeline of the LOTR trilogy
  13. Important scenes are missing in the theatrical cuts
  14. Major characters like Tom Bombadil and Glorfindel are cut from the films
  15. Return of the King fades out four separate times

  1. That's a fair point. I would love to see some side stories about something like defecting orcs, or just a friendly orc living in a cabin in the forest.

  2. Yeah. Such a hard thing to avoid unless you want to kill off a lot of characters. I would say that Borimir is the only main character that dies in my mind.

  3. This 100%. Watching the 4K versions really shows some of the terrible (by today's standards) CGI and green screens. Lot less noticable on DVD.

Omg these sound ridiculous.

  1. img

  2. They were literally created and indoctrinated from birth to be thus, that kind of brainwashing is most effective

  3. THEY ARE LITERALLY DIFFERENT SPECIES

#11 takes the piss though, bc that is true of every successful movie series, though notably it is mainly for successful rather than unsuccessful ones... 😜
