Dull Men's Club

An unofficial chapter of the popular Dull Men's Club.

https://dullmensclub.com/

1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.

2. Original, Fresh, Meaningful Content.

3. Avoid repetitive topics.

4. This is not a search engine or advice forum.
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions, identify objects or get advice. We accept very few questions, and they must be over topics much more difficult than what is easily discoverable with a search. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

6. Not hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.

7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.

8. All polls must have an "Africa, by Toto" option. Why? Because we hear the drums echoing tonight.

But let's just say I already had been through college and established a career for myself.

At least no one had to tell me and I figured it out for myself, I guess.

Nothing to do with how many cows are involved, but...

If you mix milk that's two weeks from going bad, with milk that's two days from going bad, you now have twice as much milk that will go bad in two days.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 20 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I was thinking more like having a glass of milk that's like 1/3 full and drinking that and then putting more milk in the glass from the other jug. That's what I used to do under the stupid assumption that if you mixed the milk from two different cows, something bad would happen.

Like mixing two different blood types.

That's why they're labeled with whole, 2%, 1%, and skim. Just keep same with same and the space-time continuum is fine.

I'm curious what you thought might happen?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

I honestly didn't know. Just something not good. Like Rhaedas said jokingly, you don't mix two blood types.

[–] TehBamski@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't know why I held out for you to claim something like, 'If you mix the milk that's two days away from expiring, with milk that will expire in two weeks, you can essentially extend the two days away milk's shelf life.'

I swear I'm not that gullible.

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

That's just silly.

Everyone knows that stamping a new date on the jug is the only way to extend its shelf life.

We got a stew going

[–] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

Just don't drink straight from the jug. The bacteria in your saliva will spoil the milk twice as fast.

I plead the 5th.

[–] aStonedSanta@lemm.ee 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Interesting. I haven’t run into this. And I’m a total jug drinker.

[–] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

If you drink it fast enough it's not an issue. Give it about a week after your first drink and it'll be sour.

Or so I've heard...

[–] aStonedSanta@lemm.ee 1 points 3 weeks ago

Ah yeah. I drink it too fast. Lol. I don’t do it with anything other than milk though. Like my OJ. I have to pour in a cup lol.

[–] Willy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

wait. do you stick your tounge in the jug? just pour it in like drinking a bottle of beer. nothing inside the bottle should touch your mouth except the milk already under gravity.

[–] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

Backwash is inevitable unless you're not putting your mouth on it at all.

[–] doingthestuff@lemy.lol 7 points 3 weeks ago

I never mix it because I only buy a pint every two weeks for cooking. Why would I mix a bit of old milk into my fresh milk? I don't understand drinking cow titty juice, it straight up makes me sick unless it's an ingredient in a cooked dish.

[–] mattd@programming.dev 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Even if it was 1 jug per cow, why would it be weird to mix them?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

In the same way it's weird how some stores and restaurants sell glued-together steak.

https://stockmansteaks.com.au/blogs/news/what-is-meat-glue-the-hidden-ingredient-you-need-to-know-about

It doesn't really matter, it's all the same meat from one herd being treated the same way and it's all going to the same place, but it's still weird. At least to me.

[–] anguo@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Have you never had minced meat?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I can't help what feels weird to me, dude.

[–] wise_pancake@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 weeks ago

It’s okay, as a kid I would roll the wheels backwards on toy cars to counter out any forwards rotation I put on the wheels.

[–] anguo@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I get you. When eating (Greek) yoghurt as a kid, any separated liquid had to be mixed back in until it was perfectly homogeneous. When I saw a friend pour out the liquid instead, years later, it was gut-wrenching.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Ah, similarly when I was a kid, I didn't understand that you were supposed to mix together the kind of yogurt with fruit on the bottom. I thought that was sort of a little post-yogurt treat.

[–] anguo@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah, I still haven't made up my mind about that one.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

I kind of haven't either, but when I got older, I just made my own mixed yogurt with jam and I liked it more anyway.

[–] Burninator05@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

The only concern I would have is if one jug is older than the other. Milk doesn't have a long shelf life.

[–] Willy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

I started buying ultrapasturized and it lasts a lot longer. a lil more expen as I've but worth it if your slow to use milk

[–] DjMeas@lemm.ee 2 points 3 weeks ago

I haven't mixed two separate milks into one container before but my family thinks it's weird that I spin the container and swish the milk around before I pour it over my cereal.
