This is awesome. I would like to learn more about video segments. What is the best way to tag them? Is it something that can be done with MKVtoolNix or are there automatic tools available?

There's a plugin for Jellyfin that will analyze the audio of your content to automatically tag intros, recaps, and credits

Both MKVToolnix and Handbrake allow you to define segments (though they call it chapters). You set these chapters either by providing exact time stamps or by loading a XML file that does it for you. The generating of those XML files could in theory be crowdsourced, but I don't know of any platform that does this.

Alternatively, and this is the solution I use, you can use a userscript for mpv called "chapters for MPV". This plugin allows you to define chapters more visually. Simply pause the video at the right position, hit "n" on your keyboard and then enter the name of the segment.

I should add, that you also need to install a plugin, that then converts the segment data into something jellyfin can use. This plugin is part of the official catalogue

Wow this is an amazing update

Wow so if I understand right, the app now supports intro skipping and (roughly) trick play?? This is huge 😍

I don't love having Tizen ;/.

The most recent update for my Samsung TV actually broke my existing side loaded Jellyfin and made it more difficult to re-install due to some code signing requirements changing.

Rather then continuing to fight with it I've disconnected it from my network entirely and bought an Nvidia Shield to use instead.

I have had good luck with my two shields. I have both the tube one and the flat one. I have given thought to building a new client box out of either a mini or a shield or something, but the Android TV client is really good.

Holy shit, this is an awesome update.

I haven't gotten the update yet. Is this a slow rollout?

any chance of running this in a hacked environment, like plain android or x86? I'm curious what the UX is like. tried spinning up an Android TV VM once and it stopped dead axing for a Google login, which'll happen never.

If you want to use Android TV without Google login you must use Android TV without Google apps installed.

I've tried installing Android TV on a Pi 5, but then I didn't receive Google's 2FA notification, and after a few tries they seemingly blacklisted my device. Now the Pi uses LineageOS ATV without GApps...

don't want google apps. any idea where to get ATV without them?

edit: the konstakang thing? I'll try to run it in a VM

[–] Chewy7324@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yes, konstakang's build is what I used on the Pi. There's also ATV builds for Google Chromecast 4K on lineage os official website, which might work better depending on the VM.

I don't know whether there're builds alreasy available for x86.

[–] dingdongitsabear@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 month ago

uh, yeah, Imma pass. the way I understood it, I should build LineageOS from source specifically for the AVD and that might work. that's just too much hassle. running jellyfin-media-player in TV fullscreen mode works just fine for me. thanks anyway!
