Would the Union have been able to actually supply these guns though? I know their logistic was leagues ahead of the traitors', but how much of a burden would it have benn?

In defense of the repeaters, though, the War Department was extremely conservative at the time, and one of their big fears was that untrained troops would fire off their ammunition in a hurry without actually hitting much - something which generally did not actually happen.
