This election is likely going to be looked back on as the point when things became completely untenable in the 21st century. The American empire will implode, billions will suffer, the climate emergency will accelerate to maximum, and geopolitical dynamics will become incredibly unstable. Shit is about to go fully awry. This was it, and the people who are already bored about it have played no small part in getting us here.

"Can we just get over the fact that your foot is blown off? It's bumming me out."

No

When has apathy ever backfired though??

[–] Shadywack@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

When 15 million voters who could have swayed the election said "fuck it". 15 million voters who voted democrat in 2020, that is.

No. No, we can't "move on" from the election, because elections have consequences. We will never be able to "move on" because we will be continuously fucked by those consequences, in the ass with no lube, for the rest of our lives.

Even if Trump and the GOP give up power and the US holds free and fair elections in four years, an absolute fuck-ton of permanent damage will have been done in the meantime.

There are so many things at stake, but people really don't know how bad Trump's supreme court has fucked the environment already. Getting the average voter to care about it won't happen until it's far too late. I try to just not think about it.

Those who choose to abstain from politics submit to being ruled by their inferiors.

Considering it affects a lot of people, negatively, it is rightfully a topic.

Sounds pretty fucking privileged that you even have the option of moving on from the topic

This is a big topic after all so there is no way one can just "move on".

As a Brazilian nervously watching the unfolding of a potentially global mess, I bring you the best Brazil can offer: memes! Here's a pretty relatable one (Original cartoon from Maurício de Souza, Turma da Mônica)

That's accurate to how I feel inside. GOP got it all. So nothing can really stop their agenda. Which sucks if you're not white male.

If the past is any indicator of the future then we can expect the next four years to be non-stop Trump posting.

We can’t move on without a proper segue. How about politics+beans memes? I can’t imagine anyone would be unhappy with that.

[–] todd_bonzalez@lemm.ee 16 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Move on? No.

The next 4 years are going to be awful. Your choices are pretty much to fight like hell to limit the damage to your community, tune it all out to protect yourself from the stress, or find a way out of the country, at least until after the next election (god willing).

"He was only stabbed 23 times on the floor of the senate. We need to move on ... and then finish wiping up the floor."

[–] mojo_raisin@lemmy.bestiver.se 15 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Are people dumb enough to think our world is going to continue as it has, just keep making memes, move on? We done fucked up, there will be nothing to move on to.

[–] LustyArgonianMana@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Right? That was possibly the last election for president our country will hold. No, I can't just move on from it.

Like Biden will likely have to leave the country once he's no longer president, along with his whole family. Taylor Swift might have to leave. Who knows what this raging narcissist will do.

A man who will rape, which is sexual torture, doesnt care about you or your body except how it pleases him. Including killing you. We are very fucked. He will punish us until his narcissistic ego feels satiated.

The US has the top military budget and nuclear weapons, which was just given to an open fascist who is clearly in the pocket of a foreign power, which has an interest in destroying our country.

Can we just move on from the US 2024 election?

Yeah sure. Just find someone who can put me in a medical coma, and I'll 'forget' all about it.

[–] DmMacniel 13 points 1 week ago

Oh don't worry. Many from Europe/Germany are focusing on our broken government right now.

[–] Kroxx@lemm.ee 12 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Attention everyone there was a major US election that took place 2 days ago resulting in Trump winning

If you get on social media for the next month (probably more) you are going to see politics unless you filter it out or get off social media

Ngl seeing the American left wing bubble burst is wild and entertaining. I mean, I would never want Trump to be elected but people have gotten a huge reality check of what sort of online environment they were exposed to.
