I'm not sure why I decided to make this post. I guess I want to boast lol.

Anyways,

I started translating some GTK apps (because GNOME is the only DE that matters and there's nothing better than stock libadwaita) to one of the languages I know. I'm not a very professional translator (like how in the amount of KDE apps do you understand if a string is used in a button, label or something else?) but hopefully I can do at least something for FOSS besides just advertising it everywhere.

Also if you think this post is meaningless, it can be used as my confirmation of identity so people don't think someone is impersonating me when they see my nickname in about pages :)

Congrats! I appreciate this post because I want to be where you are in the not too distant future.

Contributing to Open Source can feel overwhelming, especially if working outside of one's primary field. Personally, I'm a scientist who got interested in open source via my academic interest in open science (such as the FAIR principles for scientific data management and stewardship, which are that data should be Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable). This got me interested in how scientists share code, which led me to the horrifying realisation that I was a better programmer than many of my peers (and I was mediocre)

Studying open source has been useful for seeing how big projects are managed, and I have been meaning to find a way to contribute (because as you show, programming skills aren't the only way to do that). It's cool to see posts like yours because it kicks my ass into gear a little.

Congrats!

PS. Distro (or DE) wars are meaningless. But I use KDE btw ;)

Hey, congratulations! Your contribution matters, no need to downplay it! :-)

I started helping out with documentation, and some translations as well, and maybe posts like yours can help enabling more people to help in other ways, apart from writing code.

E. g. designing logos and graphics, enhancing the website or create one, providing quality assurance and so on.

congrats. If I ever even modified code taken up in the free software architecture I would be ecstatic.

I really wish I were multilingual for this exact reason
