Hu Youping, 54, was stabbed multiple times while trying to restrain an attacker at a school bus stop in China’s eastern city of Suzhou on Monday. She died in hospital two days later.

I don't pretend to understand the politics of the extremists, but Hu Youping is a hero. RIP.

We should be careful about normalizing the use of scmp as a news source here. While they can be reputable in some areas, at large they are quite biased.

I would hope that people here don’t want this community to take the same path as the .ml news communities.

Because the little preview blurb up there didn't make the connection to Japan clear and because people won't read the article most of the time:

The attacker first targeted a Japanese mother and her child waiting at the stop and then tried to get on the bus, which was carrying Japanese schoolchildren. Hu immediately rushed to help and her courageous act “prevented more people from being hurt”, Suzhou police said.

Thank you. I tried to read the article, got two pop ups (for notifications and cookies requests, I think), then saw it ended in a paywall maybe a paragraph in. So, I was reminded why I don't usually read articles, lol

FWIW, the archive.is link did not have those.

Thank you! It was a few steps removed and I didn't know it was there, but it was worth it!
