The Lemmy place to discuss veganism.

Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals.

This is also why I think we should be focusing on urbanism and figuring out how to live good lives with less physical foot print. There is no real reason the amount of human occupied land needs to increase, in a lot of places people are poorly distributed like anywhere suburban.

More people need to live in 4-storey apartments while using public transit and active transport to get around.

The future doesn't look great for long term food availability if current trends continue.

I was already thinking that food availability was questionable before the big COVID ramp up and that was the last straw for me. Getting food items reliably, especially vegetables with actual nutritional value and whatnot, is something I have taken back control of from commercial farms and stores.

I would encourage anyone who found it difficult to obtain these things at any time to research quick and cheap methods of growing the things you value most. You'd be surprised how economical it can be and how low maintenance the right setup can be. Maybe it won't replace the items in your shopping cart right away but it can be a great way to supplement them while you learn a hobby you may have to depend on someday.
