This really brings up how fucking mind bogglingly short our attention span and memory seems to be. Donald trump murdered my grandfather, he murdered some of my favorite musicians and artists, he murdered one in 300 Americans, and most of us just fucking moved on and forgot I guess

[–] SimplyChad@lemmy.world 15 points 3 weeks ago

Pretty wild how it feels like an entire lifetime ago but it was really only like 3 years.

[–] ChillPenguin@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah but people couldn't go out to bars and go out drinking! /s

[–] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Bowling and hair salons were the 2 biggest ones I remember people losing their minds over

[–] Etterra@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Bowling? Really? How quaint.

For the fact checkers https://www.bbc.com/news/61333847

According to the WHO, in 2020 and 2021 the US recorded more than 930,000 excess deaths, behind India (4.7m), Russia (1.1m) and Indonesia (1m).

[–] OneWomanCreamTeam@sh.itjust.works 21 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

Since the meme mentions rate, rather than total deaths, this graphic from that article is probably more relevant

[–] Beaver@lemmy.ca 10 points 3 weeks ago

Mexico is smarter than republican America

[–] forrcaho@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

This is an informative chart that definitely contributes to the discussion. Without any clue where it comes from, though, I have no way to gauge its credibility.

[–] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago

According to the article that this graphic came from, it’s from Johns Hopkins University, data as of 4 May.

[–] Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 3 weeks ago

I'm curious on how that translates in population density? The US is (on average) a fair bit lower in density compared to other countries, and still had atrocious numbers for Covid

[–] collapse_already@lemmy.ml 0 points 2 weeks ago

Do those three countries count as developed? The author could be relying on that qualifier. As a U.S. citizen, I would rather be compared to places like France, Germany, Japan, etc. than them (no offense ment, but we're talking about aspirations).

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 16 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

You could have made this meme better by abstaining from AI art.

Isn't it sad how easy it is to spot? We've wasted billions of dollars and burned more resources than entire countries just to scalp a job from artists making the most generic images imaginable. Corporate Memphis wishes it could be this bad.

No, let's leave the lazy ai political memes to the Republicans

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I think this is a bit different. We aren't making ridiculous claims. It's just a normal meme made with a different tool.

[–] EldritchFeminity@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I agree that this kind of lazy meme content is what image generators should be used for. However, the issue is not the tool, but the materials that it's made from. By using these generators created from morally and ethically dubious source material, we help corporations profit off of work that isn't theirs.

You mean they didn't pay Getty for their entire library?

I agree the corporations aren't ethical. But neither are the corporations they scraped it from.

They aren't just scraping Getty. They're scraping your local wedding photographer's website, your social media accounts, and the work of every small artist on the web.

If it was just big corps that they were scraping from, yeah, fuck 'em. But it's the little guys who run their own business and are losing out that I care about. Hell, they probably pay Getty to use their content because Getty has the money to sue if they don't. Just like they pay Reddit for the content the users make rather than just scraping it.

When it spits out copyrighted characters that they obviously didn't pay licensing to use, it's hilarious. It's a lot less so when it spits out the work of award-winning photographers and artists.

Gill Sans bold was a poor typeface choice

Go play in your special gold house now little Donnie, it's time for the grown-ups to do boring grown-up stuff.

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 weeks ago

But Daddy I want to be President!

And now!

Don't care how, I want it now.

Don't care how, I want it now!

[–] BruceTwarzen@lemm.ee 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

He wanted to nuke a tornado

[–] pachrist@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Hey, hey! Fake news! He wanted to nuke a hurricane.

[–] CitizenKong@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

And very likely because he saw it in Sharknado 3 (he almost had a cameo in that one which is why he probably saw it).

[–] HootinNHollerin@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Missing the diaper

[–] Akasazh@feddit.nl 2 points 2 weeks ago

Tbf though, thatis a rather spiffy look for a toddler

[–] Farmfixit@lemmy.world -1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

And he did inject himself with pointless crap so big pharma got paid.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You mean he got vaccinated (which he did)? That's good, not pointless.

[–] Farmfixit@lemmy.world -1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Lol if tv repeats something enough times it must be true eh? It is pointless, see me; never sick never got shots. They have people conditioned with fear only so money goes into their pockets.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That's som conspiracy crap mixed up with both survival bias and a sole data point.

The scientific world overwhelmingly says that the COVID vaccine saved tons of people(more than houndred of thousands).

Vaccines exist since centuries and they work. Also your drump did get all the vaccines lol.

You should think this over IMO, if you're not a doctor in immunology and all alone in your ideas, you're just wrong.

[–] Farmfixit@lemmy.world -1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Its your dumbfuck Trump since birds of a feather flock together. Not a conspiracy if you follow the money, pretty easy to see conflict of interest since doctors are paid by huge drug companies and would lose their license if they don't tow the line. Relying on injecting yourself to make you healthy is dumbest things popular culture can come up with. Your body has millions of years of evolution and works better without being tricked with synthetic chemicals.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Dude I hope you never will need modern medicin (or dentistry). You're probably a teenager so well you'll learn, eventually.

[–] Farmfixit@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Well are you old enough to remember when WMDs where all the hype exactly like covid? You still want to be tricked that easily by repeating same thing over and over?

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

What about dentists? Or surgeons? Should they be banned too?
