I believe this is called reclamation and it’s one of the most powerful aspects of capitalism, it’s really frighteningly resilient.

I don't believe reclamation has a particular political definition, though leftist projects will often speak of reclaiming things from capitalist culture, which is "reverse recuperation" or what the Situationists called détournement.

the college kids of yesteryear, who wore Che shirts and soviet hats, but were ultimately no threat to the system are a great example of this.
