This one panel is better than most movies I've seen.

If I start dreaming of old space creatures that sleep in the ocean I wouldn't be sure if it's actually the Call of Cthulhu or just a regular dream.

Nah, it's just normal paranoia. Everyone gets that from time to time.

Perhaps I’m old and tired, but I always think that the chances of finding out what really is going on are so absurdly remote that the only thing to do is say “hang the sense of it” and just keep yourself occupied. Look at me, I design coastlines, I got an award for Norway. Where’s the sense in that? None that I’ve been able to make out. I’ve been doing fiords all my life, for a fleeting moment they become fashionable and I get a major award. In this replacement Earth we’re building they’ve given me Africa to do, and of course, I’m doing it will all fjords again, because I happen to like them. And I’m old fashioned enough to think that they give a lovely baroque feel to a continent. And they tell me it’s not equatorial enough… what does it matter? Science has achieved some wonderful things of course, but I’d far rather be happy than right any day!

Best to you !FlyingSquid@lemmy.world. Brilliant Quote by a brilliant author. Douglas Adams, you were gone too soon. At least we have your corpus. Perhaps it's time to re-read The Guide.

Technically, that was from the radio series, which came first. But I love the books just as much.

A client, could be 15 - 20 years ago handed me a version of the radio series on cassette tape. I wonder if / where that is now. I remember the quote, and so many quotes from DA's works. When I was in undergrad, there was an HGG game on the university's mainframe. It was all command line interface. I never got past getting the babel fish in my ear, lol.

The whole thing is available on the Internet Archive if you're interested. There were some follow-up radio series done in the 2000s to cover the other books with most of the original cast (some, including Peter "The Book" Jones had passed away), but I don't think they're anywhere near as good. Adams, obviously, didn't write the scripts. The person who wrote them understood Adams, but couldn't quite replicate him.

2002 is what it says on the cassettes. Douglas Adams, The Salmon of Doubt: Hitchhiking the Galaxy One Last Time. I was able to go right to the bookshelf where it resides. LoL at the top, Hastings Your Entertainment Superstore.

I love how this is like Mother, Earthbound and Motner 3. You got the innocent kids, their “weapons” and a robot
