Not that it takes much to trash their grid

A category 1 hurricane sneezed on Houston and I was without power for 8 days in 95 degree heat. We need to seize the power grid back from private companies and hold it in public trust.

They literally overcharged the state for emergency generators that were too big to use during the hurricane clean up, purchased from a tiny no name company, surely for kickbacks, and they made a tidy profit off it too, by like 10 percent.

And now they want to recoup costs by raising our rates.

YOU CAUSED THIS BY NOT PERFORMING VEGETATIVE MAINTENANCE TO CUT COSTS.

Btw, the CEO of CenterPointless worked for PG&E, the company that set California on fire, due to a lack of vegetative maintenance. I'm pretty sure he was their Chief financial officer.

I like how nepo capitalism shuffles poor-performing dimwits from driving a car they are currently crashing to driving a car they are about to crash.

I wonder if disused datacentres will end up being like many malls are today: dead and empty because the bubble popped and the money moved on.

If only Texans had a way to vote for leadership that could fix their electricity issues 🤔

[–] Laser 9 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Surely all this is the immigrants' fault?

[–] barsquid@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago

It is due to woke solar and wind energy being DEI added to the grid.

I realize you might be trying to mock a common refrain from rightwing nutjobs but this isn’t really the place

mock at all means, but do so with class and wit

[–] HorseRabbit@lemmy.sdf.org 0 points 3 months ago

Lmao. Why is this not the time or place?

[–] Laser 0 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I'll get to that once Texas elects politicians that warrant such effort

[–] mawhrin@awful.systems 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

are you one of these fuckers who suggest that “red” states' citizens deserve all that happens to them without realising how gerrymandered are the voting districts, and that the “red” states are not really red?

[–] Laser 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

No, that's why I wrote "Texas" instead of "Texans" or "everyone in Texas" because I know that it's not everyone's choice and a lot of people there suffer from that bullshit. But the elected leadership and a significant part of its leadership are so dumb that they're undeserving of any work put into the ridicule for them.

As for gerrymandering: I have no clue while the US clings to that stupid voting system. But the problems with it are known for years, and I haven't heard of any efforts to get rid of it

As for gerrymandering: ... and I haven’t heard of any efforts to get rid of it

Check out "Democracy Watch with Marc Elias" his group has been fighting for this for a while now

[–] Laser 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Ah, sorry. I was talking about efforts from politicians and parties in charge. Nevertheless, a good and commendable effort

watching Austin Energy capping my A/C and deciding to become a rabid supporter of Yud's call to airstrike data centers

[–] skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 3 months ago

whoa now they only have budget for this and only on a smaller heli

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 months ago

Don't you hate it when the idiots end up being right for all the wrong reasons?

[–] Etterra@lemmy.world 14 points 3 months ago

Wow isn't having an unregulated grid the best? Anyway my AC is working just fine, thanks for asking.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 months ago

That’s saying something, because it was already in rough shape
