Let me just open this article to see how billion dollar company Ubisoft helped defend and protect their consultant...

Told her to ignore it. Cool

Made a statement about how amazing she is after she turned the tide. Got it.

Gamers are so fucking embarrassing man... These people will harass a voice actor, because they don't like that the character the person plays killed a beloved character.

It's like they cannot tell fiction from reality.

Edit:

Anik Talukder, a 28-year-old south Asian man living in the United Kingdom, said he apologized at least 10 times to Schmidt-Hori after accepting her Zoom invitation to discuss his Reddit post about her.

Look... It's great this person felt remorse, but Jesus Christ these people fold immediately. A bunch of racist paper tigers.

It’s not just gamers it’s in almost every corner of geek fandom. Remember how a bunch of losers attacked Kelly Marie Tran because they blamed her for the new Star Wars slop.

Honestly, that's most racist people. As soon as they actually meet the target of their vitriol, they'll usually fold. Just make sure they're alone and not with their racist buddies.

The same goes for most forms of bigotry.

I wish the biggest problem in my life was how good a video game is. If you don't like the game, leave a bad review, warn others in your circle... but don't go harassing people that worked on it.

A big part of the problem is that social media platforms encourage and amplify hateful content.

People are literally profiting from their hate and harassment of game developers (and have the hubris to complain about ‘woke grifters’) but platforms like YouTube just throw up their hands and pretend it’s nothing to do with them.

The fashy outrage engine where any trailer with some amount of melanin triggers endless "WOKE FAIL" videos is in full force.

The process is watch trailer>check for nonwhite>RAGE video>if game bombs: GLOAT video> if game is a hit: quietly STFU and move on to the next target.

I have to assume the algorithmic boosting of this garbage is the result of someone at Google arguing that groceries haul videos and reaction videos were the bottom of the barrel and someone grab-my-beering that shit.

I mean, these idiots spent months doing "Expedition 33 is WOKE" outrage videos. That was, in fact, the top couple of threads on the Steam community forum for the game on launch day. I checked. Besides one thread hilariously trying to do "It's a hit because it's not WOKE" on the top page, the word "woke" is no longer in the first ten pages of discussions.

It's such an obvious grift and it's so pointless to even call it out. Everybody knows it's bullshit. The creators know it, the fascistoid children following them know it, the game makers know it, the politicians taking advantage to indoctrinate young men know it. And yet here we are.

I honestly wish i had the option to offer a facecall to whoever is toxic to me online. Its good to remind People, that there are realisiert humans behind the User names.

[–] owl@infosec.pub 8 points 2 days ago (2 children)

"realisiert" found the German.

Learning Yasuke was based on a real person did little to assuage critics. Asian men in particular argued Schmidt-Hori was trying to erase them, even though her role involved researching historical customs and reviewing scripts, not creating characters.

If you are this stupid, maybe you in particular should be erased?

It's crazy that racists just have an axe to grind with people who are even vaguely accepting. If a game is too "woke" just shut up and let us have our fun. No one is making you play it. Kudos for the professor's self-confidence. I hope she is safe from crazy people on the web.

[–] dan1101@lemm.ee 6 points 2 days ago

Exactly. And empathy is not a weakness, it's a strength. Blindly hating things is weakness and ignorance.

[–] vegetvs@kbin.earth 5 points 2 days ago

Kindness wins.

[–] totallyNotARedditor@lemm.ee 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I don't understand people like that. If you don't like some piece of entertainment, don't consume it, leave a bad review, and move on

[–] Sickday@kbin.earth 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

don't consume it, leave a bad review,

If you didn't consume it, why leave a review let alone a bad one?

[–] totallyNotARedditor@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago

I meant that as an "or". Don't consume or give feedback if you do
